Another vote for chicken patty.

We also had burger king, taco bell, and subway in our highschool cafeteria.

mmm..in elementary school through junior high I remember eating those long pizzas (sorta oval-ish in shape..not hexagonal), salisbury steaks with tater tots and these fish patties that had cheese in them. This was in the late 80's here in NYC. I don't remember much else but I kinda liked them..then again I was a kid and ate just about everything.

Oh those rectangular pizzas were great. We had that and the small circle deep dish ones which we tossed around like frisbees when the adults weren't supervising.

k, I'll bite; what type of school did you attend? Were you home schooled?

Nope, went to several different public schools in Canada. It is just something that isn't common in Canadian schools. We all brought our own bag lunches, or went home for lunch.

Interesting, I never knew that. Do these schools not have the option to buy lunch at all (no kitchen, cafeteria)?

I feel fortunate that way back when I went to school, the vast majority of lunch offerings were made from scratch rather than from a "frozen package."

HOWEVER, that didn't mean that the food was always GOOD...far from it...but IMO, having seen the garbage served nowadays, I think we had better food.

I think their "pan-sized" pizzas were pretty good...it's been more than 40 years ago...so I may have simply forgotten how bad the stuff actually was. :p

(I also remember a "hamburger gravy" served over mashed potatoes that was pretty good.)

None of the schools I attended had a cafeteria or kitchen at all. Some hardly even had a lunch room (used the gym on rainy days or sent us outside on nice days). I'm sure there are some schools in Canada that do have cafeteria's, but it doesn't seem to be very common.

We had potato bar some days. Baked potato, and you could put what you wanted from the topping bar: Chili, broccoli and cheese sauce, bacon bits, sour cream, chives...

mmmm

We had fried chicken strips (very similar to KFC) and Curly fries available everyday.

Damn those were delicious with honey mustard
