way too many to chose from, but I've had "Peacocks Skeleton With Crooked Feathers" by The Blood Brothers running through my head for the past couple weeks. I saw them in concert shortly before Christmas and they totally rocked the place.

todd snider is where its at. You should get his new album though it has a song called "Conservative Christian, Right Wing, Republican, Straight, White, American Males" which is fantastic.
 
Anything by Tonedeff or Cunninglynguistics.

You guys should check out a song called "Dying Nation" and "Rain". Very interesting and thought-provoking songs.

Exactly.
Just because a band is unsigned it doesn't make them better than vintage Peter Gabriel or modern Grant-Lee Phillips.

Just because Sarah McLachlan's cover of "Solsbury Hill" is hard to find it isn't better than "Hold On" or "Ben's Song."

The Trio Bulgarka album I have is pleasant, but much less enjoyable than their appearance on Kate Bush's "Rocket's Tail."

90% of mainstream music is crap, but so is at least 90% of the music by obscure ultra-indie artists.
 
Not sure if it's my favorite, but I like a bunch of songs off Tracks, a four CD release of rare Bruce Springsteen recordings.
