Your favorite history books

I'm a fan of history in general and I'm just wondering what your favorite books are. Just recently I picked up a biography on Oppenheimer, by Pais, interesting.

List whatever you read and really like, from ancient to modern times.

is that really considered a history book though?

If we're talking about biographies, I read Lawrence of Arabia back in HS and thought it was pretty good. I also just read Dark Valley Destiny about Robert E. Howard. While some people question the author's claims about REH, its still a good book. I learned lots of stuff about Texas and the people of the early 1900s.

Sure, a biography is a person's history and what went on around them.

Seven Ideas that Shook the Universe

It's one of those $10 Bargain Books at Barnes and Noble. It gives a great historic overview of physics.
