Your favorite DVD-R backup & authoring apps?

I just got a DVD+/-RW drive, and am looking for applications. I tried InstantCopy 8 vs. CloneDVD for DVD backup.. I haven't seen the CloneDVD quality yet, but it sure as hell did convert the DVD files a lot faster than InstantCopy did.

As far as authoring, TMPGEnc DVD Author seems pretty cool, but very basic.. which is ok for now. At some point I wouldn't mind being able to create my own custom menus with my own video and music in the background, subtitles, etc.. any recommendations for authoring on a more advanced level?

Thanks!

It's a very opinionated open-ended question. Anyhow your not out any money if you try freeware apps. DVDShrink 3.0 beta 5 (use deep analysis for great quality..do main-movie only ..lose the extra crap for best quality). DVDFab if you wish to keep everything and split to two DVD±Rs. For advanced authoring (nothing like Scenarist or Maestro) but has great potentional is DVDLAB $79. Can only do one audio stream currently but can import subs, etc. and has great menu authoring built-in.
