I just recently got into the whole concept of eating healthy and as the result of it I have lost 2-3 lbs since then (I am a skinny guy to begin with anyway). In the past if I go to supermarket, I just buy whatever the cheapest bread is on sale. I consume on average one loaf per week so price is a big deal for me. Now that I pay more attention to quality and nutrition, i've been starting trying out different brand of bread. Recently, I've tried Oroweat Whole Grain & Flax. It's fantastic although a bit pricey at $3 a loaf but I think it's well worth it. I just bought another two loaf made by Van De Kamp...I have to say i was expecting more from the 100% whole wheat bread but it just failed me. However, VDK's 12 grains bread is excellent, I might try the 7 grains loaf if I get a chance next time. Although I must say that the Oroweat equivalent still tastes better to me.

The type of bread I like is bread with lots of grains on it, very little process and give me the nature flavor of the grains and wheats. Mmm...anyway, share your thought on bread here. This could be the start of YABT birth :)

Go to a natural food store and get some Ezekiel bread. They keep it frozen. It's kinda dry, but it may be the healthiest bread out there. Very natural tasting. It's made with a number of different whole grains. You could dip it in some soup or toast it and tear it up in milk. About $3-4 a loaf.

I also eat Mrs. Baird's 100% Wheat, Oroweat Health Nut, Baker's Inn 9 Grain, or various Pepperidge Farms breads. Just make sure you read the ingredients- the labels are tricksy and false.

We like the Koepplinger's Buttersweet Wheat... probably not good for you, but we like it.

What we normally eat are the $1 loaves from Kroger.

Although the Koepplinger's has come down in price lately... at one point it was pushing $3.50 a loaf.

Nature's Own

A lot of the big name brands (Sara Lee, Wonder) use high fructose corn syrup in their breads, even whole wheat breads! You might think you're being healthier by eating whole wheat bread, but the ones with HFCS are terrible.

the company I work for (perfection bakeries), we make the koepplinger bread. It sure has come down in price. Alot of the koepplinger bread doesn't have any of the artificial preservatives in them.

The bread I like, is the Aunt Millies Brand. the 100% whole wheat, the cracked wheat, the organic hearth breads. I like them all.

Same here. Bake my own. Whole wheat with pumpkin seeds is what I've been baking. Made a loaf a few days ago. Recipe:

1.5 c warm water
~ 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
1 T salt
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1.5 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup wheat bran
1/3 cup wheat germ
3 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup nonfat milk powder

Add white flour until you can work the dough, knead 5 minutes, leave in warm place to rise. Punch down, let rise again and form loaf in pan. Let rise some and bake 45 minutes in 350 degree oven. Let cool at least 3 hours and then slice with very sharp knife and store in clear plastic bag in the refrigerator, where it keeps really really well. Never goes bad. Great toasted or even microwaved. Make my own jam too.
