Definitely Scrabble. All those big words I never get to use come in handy then. ;)

All time fav? RISK!

There was this strategy board game in the '80s called Supremacy that I used to play ALL the time! Think 'Risk' with market prices, armor and nukes :D

Edit: speaking of Risk: "The Ukraine is WEAK!!!!"

Risk - no question

Monopoly is fun too, but only because it causes a huge war in my family :)

Most all mentioned are good-to-great.

Chess, Scrabble, Backgammon, Risk, Monopoly, Fed's 'n Heads, Dune, Checkers, Parcheese, Chinese Checkers, .

Not a board game, yet still my personal fav card game genre: poker -- 5-card stud, 7-card stud, draw, Hold'em, Acey-Deucy, Red Dog, Cincinnati, Chicago, Jacks 'n' Trips progressive, 7-stud-no-peek-high/low-split-roll-your-own-declare, strip, etc., etc., etc.

Also Pinochle, Canasta, Cribbage, multi-various Solitaire iterations.

Mahjongg.

And more.
