Your favorite apple?

Red Delicious. notfred, you must not know how to select an apple. You can get very crisp red delicious apples at a good market.

Not quite: Red delicious = soft, dry, grainy, and nearly flavorless.

It USED to be a great apple. But then it became so popular that it was bred for large apples that don't get damaged in shipping. Unfortunately that distroyed its texture, taste, and overall appeal. There are some places you can get the original Red Delicious that is supposed to be really good - but I haven't had one.

Jonathan's rock! When they're fresh, they're tart, crisp and juicy. Compared to most other's they stand up and scream APPLE! in your mouth. 😀

Jonathan's come in around mid September and they're good through about mid October. After that, the ones you see in the stores have been in cold storage, and they get a little mushy and lose that tart snap.

Whoever named the Delicious apple had to be a marketing guy. They're always mushy, and regardless of how strong or weak the flavor, they're way too sweet (but not pretty) with a slight bitter tinge.
