i'm referring to CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drives, scanners, printers and their displays...not their desktops or laptops. i'm just wondering because it seems like bashing Acer has become the in-thing and i wanted to see other's feedback on their products, as my experience with their products has been a somewhat positive one.

please keep this mature, i don't mind seeing "acer is suck" unless you have a good reason (dead CD-RW, for example).

Regarding Acer displays,I had a 15" and 17" both shadow mask type, coarse dot pitch(.28 and .27)and they were nothing special.Being a newbie to monitors, after a while I learned that one could do better for about the same money.Thinking back, one real negative was the anti-glare silica coating would seem to diffuse the light and make for a considerably fuzzier image compared to a monitor with a tinted clear screen.I didn't have them long enough to experience any reliability problems as I only had each one for about 2 months before dumping a bundle on a mitsubishi aperature grille and never looking back. This was a few years ago and I have no experience with their aperature grille versions.Other than the web or maybe Compusa, I just don't see them anymore. One could consider an Acer monitor but why when there are many more (and better IMO)other brands to choose from.

acer-bashing? i've never seen that before...but if i do i don't see any reason why. i have a 4x4x32 cdrw and it's still burning fine...it used to make so many coasters...but i think that was because of Easy CD Creator...when i switched to Nero everything was fine. Now I have a 12x8x32 (w/ seamless link which is hardware based and not software activated like burnproof and such), a 16x DVD rom, a 50x and 56x speed cd-rom and no problems with all of them at all. My burner won't set speed records like TDKs and Plextors but hey i got it for $100 4 months ago. Off topic but i had an acer pentium 60mhz and so far i think that was my most stable system ever.

I had an acer 20x CD-Rom for about two years. Great drive, very quiet, never any problems reading even my most scathed CD's. It finally died when my IDE controller got a short.

Desmoquattro, Acer has two versions of coaster protection in their burners. "Seamless Link" is burn-proof renamed. "Justlink" is the one thats hardware based, you can update the BIOS and possibly improve the drive.

Acer is just about as good as any other brand.

For instance they do not make their own Drives, they are made I beleive from Mitsumi, but don't quote me on that. Plextor does not make their own drives either. Neither does HP.

All these companies do is buy the basic drive from either Sony/Mitsumi/Yamaha and then modify the ROM chip in their and that is pretty much it.

Acer monitors last time I checked used the samsung CRT.

Whatever the case, my experience with Acer has been a pleasent one, with the exception of my friends monitor. He has a bad scan line on his monitor... verticle one... it was defective from day 1. He just never bothered to take it back.... His problem not mine.

acer-bashing? i've never seen that before

really? once in a while in hot deals i'll see a thread about an acer product and it contains at least one anti-acer post. and sometimes just surfing outside of AT. but maybe i'm overeacting, i don't know. i have an acer burner and a photo printer and both have never given me any problems.
