I just got finished with a minor upgrade; I upgrade my CPU from a Pentium e2180 to the Pentium e5700. This will have to hold me over until late this year, early next. Hoping the AMD Bulldozer will be released by then and be competive or I'll prolly build a new intel rig with a 4-core i5-k series.

I am a little bit dissapointed with my new CPU tho. While it is noticeably faster/stronger than my old CPU, it just seems that more and more games are liking more core's. The game that showed me the age of my current CPU (Split Second) likes the e5700 more (much more solid frame rate) but in some parts of the race it still slows and pauses (though not nearly as badly as the e2180). I suspect another core would solve this issue.

I'm actually upgrading from an E2200 to a Q8300 in a few days. Was lucky enough to get it for $90. I think it will be a good boost in performance to hold me over easily till the end of the year.

Hey guys does anyone know how I can tell if my e5200 Wolfdale @3.1GHz is bottlenecking any games that I play? I am considering getting a Sandy right now, but I am not sure if I truly NEED it or just "want" it.

Get three gtx 580s in sli and crank all the settings up on games. You'll be able to figure it out from there. :)

Q6600 (G0 stepping) at 3.85....really shouldn't upgrade, but have a serious jones for some new gear :)

Same but I'm only clocked to 3.2GHz. System still works well with my 4870 but... I'm feeling the itch. It's going to have to be a super stealth upgrade because the GF already said no.

We'll show her, won't we... :sneaky:

I have 3 fairly powerful machines for todays applications so not updating anytime soon unless 2011 or BD are really that much faster

yeah luckily MC sent out backorders for the 2500K that were ordered online, so I canceled my order after I came to my senses. But I will most likely be upgrading to BD.

A board that I sold with an E7200 to my friend went bad on him, and I didn't want to make him wait for an RMA, so I gave him my 3.8 GHz Phenom II quad-core and its board. It was the holidays anyway, so it made a good present :)

So now I'm upgrading from a 3.7GHz, 3MB L2 Wolfdale to a 2500K. I wouldn't be upgrading if I still had my Deneb though. The Deneb certainly could've been faster, but it would've been fast enough for me to rub off the upgrade itch. Dropped roughly $400 on a 2500K, P8P67, and 4GB of DDR3 memory :(

Just ordered my brother an i5 2500 + board + 6950 + other misc parts to upgrade from his E5400 + 8800GTX system. I still plan to hold onto my q9550 until later this year.

I tried to get him to a cheaper GPU but he insisted on not going 'below' budget.. oh well, maybe it will become a 6970 for him to play wow and civ 5 with... I'll whip up an in fun contract that forces him to give the parts back to me if he buys crysis 2 for his 360 and not the PC... :D

Phenom ii , unlocked 4 cores and oc to 3.6 ghz

Just upgraded to this and will have it for about two years or so until the very last supported am3 chip is released at a decent price and will just drop the phenom into my wifes older AM2/am3 board at which point ill buy the most modern am3 chip i can get to make my mobo last a few more years before i move to the next best socket type.

I felt the same way. Then my wife said she wanted a faster pc and I knew then she could have my old setup that's very similar to yours and it would allow me to get a new setup.

The poll has Opteron spelled incorrectly.

A GPU upgrade is more important to me ATM, I'm running a Core i7 with a 4870 512MB, and I would love to get something better, if only I had the money.

That's a good upgrade. I would have totally went to a quad-core if my motherboard allowed it, and a big reason why my next PC will be build by me and not a store-bought.

Using Phenom II x2-> x3 @ 3.2Ghz with low volts. Unlocking to x4 works but makes the voltage requirement go way up, from 1.225 to about 1.31.

I really want to throw a 955 in there that will run 3.2GHz at super low voltage and therefore power, but I can't justify it yet unless I can find an upgrade for less than $30 bucks. One of the new G3 SSDs will be a much more worthy upgrade, but I can't help but want a quad just so I can feel set for another few years.

I currently have a Core2 Duo E6750 that I am dying to upgrade.

I already know that this pc is on borrowed time because the random crashes is getting more common.
CPU's hardly die, unless the heatspreader is removed and the corner of the chip is chipped off... or gone through severe overclock and overvolting over the years... More like your PSU, motherboard, and or memory going bad.

Well I have been looking to upgrade the system since the i series processors were released but with getting an apartment, a car, and paying back student loans put it on hold.
I have a brand new house, brand new car, and student loan paid off many years ago...:D

I have lots of money but I'm gonna be careful of buying anything as the economy is pretty bad as usual. Nice to have butt load of money in my account for backup purposes...

Mine is Core2Duo Conroe E6600 chip and it's stable as butter. Looks like my PSU has reached its life, time to change. As for the CPU (and mobo) upgrade, not needed. My system is still plenty fast. There's an old saying, "don't fix if it ain't broken". I have lots of love with my chip, proud of it. I might go waterchilled block for my CPU for 4hz oc later.:sneaky:

I am running an i7 860 at 4.0Ghz (capable of 4.1). I do not have a desire to upgrade to the current sandy bridge cpus, but I will probably go bulldozer/socket 2011 of some kind later in the year. Not because I need to, but its always fun playing with new hardware. I dont feel like my current system is slow by any means.

I want to get Sandy Bridge but I'm going to try to wait for LGA 2011. :p

Maybe I'll just get a nicer graphics card to hold me over.

I'm gonna stick w/ my I7 920 at 3.2 thats good enough for what I do, I upgraded from an E8400 and don't regret it I got my 920 when the D0 stepping was released. I could push my overclock higher but w/ the acception of Civ 5 which I think is GPU limited anyway I don't really have a need. I might consider S2011 or wait till Ivy Bridge.

Upgraded from a P4 3GHz to a Q6600 (overclocked) in the summer of 2008, Added an Intel X-25M G2 in October of 2009, and this machine screams. Runs smooth as silk for normal day to day operations.

I've got the upgrade itch pretty badly though. I do a lot of 3D rendering, and the 2600K's Cinebench scores are amazing. My current build gets about 11500 in Cinebench, and the 2600K nets over twice that number. In rendering and animation, render times are everything. It's an obvious upgrade for me.

AMD PII X4 965 @ 4.0GHz. No plans to upgrade to Intel/AMD anything for 3 years at least.

i have a C2D E8400. not looking to upgrade, but if there are sales along the way i wouldn't be opposed. i still need to "eat my costs" for making a foolish E6600 to E8400 upgrade.
