Your computer fails

I thought maybe if we posted dumb computer-related things we did over time, it might help others learn from our mistakes.
Also, there's the laugh factor, obviously.

Let's see if I can get this started.

I spent last two weeks stress-testing new overclock. I thought I finally nailed it yesterday, but this morning I ran memory test in Prime95 only to get an error within minutes. After some puzzled time I started digging in BIOS and noticed no timings were showing for one memory bank. What the... Eventually I realized I put both modules in the same channel when I reassembled my PC back after motherboard RMA. What an idiot. Two weeks wasted. Gotta start all over.

Several years ago I knocked a bottle of milk over my PC which had side panel off. Due to some miracle nothing got fried, but the whole place looked and smelled like shit. After lots of cursing I cleaned everything up, sat back... only to knock the same bottle (what was left of it) over AGAIN. At that point I just walked away, I think 😀

This just happened last month. I got a laptop in for repair with a bad fan. I got distracted in the middle of the repair and ended up putting the old fan back in instead of the new one. I usually test them before putting the screws in but this time I didn't. I knew it the second I hit the power and heard it still chattering 🙁

Another that was fairly recent was I was snapping the front bezel back on a freshly repaired 32" LCD and busted the screen. I am glad that wasn't a customers TV.

electronic repair is a real bitch, isnt it? they dont really design consumer items to be taken apart, so you have to have real skill to do it in a way that doesnt look like you were in it.

we even went as far as fixing backlights inside the panels of tv's. its scary as hell to take a panel apart without damaging it. but there was one time we did fix the problem- one of the ccfl bulbs wasnt fully snapped in at the factory, and it was burnt around the connector causing the display to flicker.

Ya it is, and I have done a few bulb replacements as well and I can't say I want to do another one.
