Best: Batman: Arkham Asylum
To be honest I didn't start the game until right before Christmas and most of it was played in 2010...I cannot believe how fantastic the game is. The presentation, story, graphics, gameplay, it's all top notch. My only gripe is that I wish it was longer. Not that it's a short game, I just want more stuff to do! I'm going to get 100% on this game, it's an absolute must play.
Runners up:
-Assassin's Creed 2-
I sort of enjoyed the first Assassin's Creed but I'll agree, it was way too repetitive and it got boring pretty quickly. The sequel was light years beyond the first game. There are no "set" missions you have to do (collect intel to find out how to assassinate a target," there is just gameplay that eventually leads to assassinating said target. So much better and a ton of fun (although I wasn't a huge fan of the ending).
-Xbox 360 "Jasper" chipset-
I know this is also technically a 2008 update but it didn't really hit the mainstream until 2009. The number of 360's cooking themselves has dropped like a rock, I got mine in April and haven't had a lick of trouble. This is how the 360 platform should have started out...
Worst: Activision/IW's treatment of supporting fans
I can't believe how cocky IW/Activision got with the release of MW2. It was pretty much "bend over and take it however we give it to you." No Beta, lackluster response to all the bugs, slow patch release, etc. While I really enjoy the game I am pretty upset with how they've dealt with everything post-release.
Runners up:
-Wii accessories-
Come on, I bought a Wii right after Christmas '08 for my wife...and now we've got Wii motion plus, nunchuku attachments, wii-wheels, guns, balance boards, etc. For a console that mostly collects dust Nintendo certainly wants us to buy alot of crap for it.
-Release dates-
Not just delays (which is a big part of it), but I'm somewhat amazed that there was a dead period between May and September with almost no good games and then starting in late October we are hammered by an onslaught of good games. Why not space them out a little bit?
-Halo franchise-
Is Halo 3/ODST really much different from Halo 1? This franchise is becoming tired very quickly...
