your advice on my future purchase

Hi,
You all have a been a great help to me this week, advising me on my future pc. Please have a look at this list of specs and tell me if it looks like a good idea to get this pc. With all the extra little doo-dads, minus the shipping, the total comes to about $1600.

I am particularly concerned to know whether it will be okay for me to reuse my old monitor; it's an "esa", power rating 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 2.5A, for whatever that's worth. It is about 2 years old. It is not flat, but I think it's an LCD? the screen is flat, but it is otherwise shaped like an old monitor.

Also if you see anything that really doesn't fit or is a bad idea, please say so! I chose components to the best of my ability but sometimes I was totally guessing.

power supply: Thermaltake purepower 700 watt p.s. (sli ready)
intel core 2 duo E6300
liquid cpu cooling fan system kit
mother board: ECS 965T-A P965 chipset w/ 7.1 sound Gb LAN, USB 2.0 PCI-E MB (quad-core support)
RAM: 2048MB [1024MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module
320 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache]
NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT 512MB with DVI + TV out video
16X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive
3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard
Mitsumi 1.44 MB Internal Floppy Drive (it was only $8 to add it)
Thermal Temperature LCD Display
OS: MS Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition w/ Free Upgrade Coupon for Windows Vista? Home Premium
Professional wiring for all cables inside the system tower
Opti-UPS SS1200-AVR Mighty Voltage Regulator

no 2nd hd, no raid configuration, no external raid hds, no cd/dvd drive (other than the one listed above)
no speakers - I intend to reuse my old ones.
no fax modem
no monitor - I want to reuse my own

Thank you very much for your input!

if your monitor has a flat screen, but is large like a TV, it's just a flat-screen CRT. any 2 year old computer monitor should work fine.

if you don't feel comfortable with ibuypower, try ******/

EDIT.. it didn't post the link. www.abs.com

Thanks for the tip. I am using it primarily for gaming, in fact, and thought long and hard about getting the 8800GTX, but decided to save a little and get the 7950GT instead. I'll be using the NeverwinterNights 2 toolset, and was advised to go with the core 2 duo and 2 gigs of RAM to properly run that.

Does everything else look okay?

I actually started by looking at abs, but now when I go there they are out of the 7950. I'd have to go with the 7600--is that comparable?

7600 isn't really comparable. I was just looking at ABS and saw the 7950 (Ultimate X8 model). I don't know what your budget is, but that was the base C2D system starting at $1299 (other models $1499 and $2399).

take a look at this one
******/app/config.asp?mono=1956

the base X8 models comes with C2D but on the nForce4 chipset motherboard, whereas the above comes with the Intel 975X. It'll probably block out the "abs" part again
It's the Ultimate X9 model and I'd take that (with the 975X) over the X8 model with nForce 4.

Okay, I'm looking at abs... as I'm configuring, I can't upgrade to 7900 because it's "out-of-stock." I can upgrade to 8800 but as I've already doubled the RAM it would mean the price going out of my budget ($1500 if possbile, I'll go to $1700 grand maximum).

what are VGA EVGA video cards like? Those are listed as possbile upgrades.

Otherwise, the computer comes with 2 7600s. Is two better?

Don't get 2 7600 cards. I'm looking at the Ultimate X9 system and I see eVGA 7950GT is available (as is the Radeon X1950XTX but it costs more). The 7900GTX is out of stock.

Okay, I'm where you are now. So this one--would I still be able to upgrade to a better card later? It has all he right slots?

Yeah, it has all the right slots. But so you know, on these ones, with the Intel chipsets on the motherboard, you can only use 2 ATI video cards in crossfire as they do not support SLI (this is the same as the one you picked from ibuypower). But if you're getting an 8800GTX later that's all you'll need. There is no problem with using just 1 Nvidia card, that's fine, just doesn't support the use of 2.

But I'd take a good look at that $1199 ABS machine as it seems it comes with the Intel BadAxe2 motherboard which is both fast and very stable. I'd take that 100 times over the ECS 965 board from ibuypower. In fact, I just bought the BadAxe2 board for my new system.
