I do highly recommend creating a meta thread of cop abuse. Can update the title, the OP, and bump it with new cases. Though if you don't pace these stories out, I'm afraid you won't see much of a response.

Much more important, IMO, would be a thread to discuss policy. How should police be trained, what procedures should they be expected to follow, what is their liability and consequences for harming others?

We give them leverage to perform their duties, but we also do not want people abused or injured. That's a tough line to walk in some cases. It'd be nice if there was public awareness of how to respond to the police as well. To avoid misunderstandings and injuries.

Instead of just pointing the finger and yelling at how bad they are, our energy would be best spent discussing a way forward.

I completly agree with you. Instead of thread crapping because you don't like the subject matter, have civil discourse in the thread on the very things your post talks about.

She's cute and blonde. The officer should have known right away he wasn't going to get away with it.

As someone with similar injuries in my neck, she is in for a lifetime of chronic pain and probably chronic migraines.

As long as it is a Sticky. I do like the idea of moving the discussion towards the subject of solutions, but it is easier to bitch and moan than present ideas to a problem, which of course will always be ridiculed by some and often devolve into partisan bickering.

this shits starting to get out of hand...

do i smell an american spring coming???

I've mentioned this before, but there needs to be a federal level agency or department that is tasked to investigate police abuse. If the police are committing crimes against citizens or abusing them, they are violating your civil rights which should be handled federally.

Anyone that thinks in this day and age each police department is the best department to police itself is crazy. More like they are tasked with whitewashing crimes if possible, minimizing them if not, and warning the guys if someone is under investigation.

I know I sound like one of those cop haters, but I really am not. I have too much respect for the job too silently watch it devolve into what it is today. Much of the same applies to the whole justice, or rather legal system.

There are many good and honest professionals doing these hard jobs, but if they silently let these incidents happen aka the blue wall of silence, aren't they guilty too?

That is outrageous. It's interesting she hasn't yet sued - I can guarantee you she will have her pick of the best lawyers in Wisconsin lining up to take her case.

At least he wont' get away with it. We all know crap like this is not an isolated incident. Consider how many cops get away with shit like that never gets attention.

Agree about single thread.

Perfect example of why you should never admit anything to police. Because she said she had a "few sips" of a friend's drink that night the filthy pigs had the confession they needed to charge her with drunk driving in an attempt to get their fellow thug off the hook.

Police are the biggest gang of criminals in the country.

Why would it be a sticky? Do we have a sticky racism thread? How about a sticky rape or child abuse thread? How about a sticky murder thread?

Yep but there are too many people out there who do not understand this sadly. They think if they are honest and it's no big deal everything will be ok. But what they don't understand is these are not your friends, they aren't there to help you they are there to pull you into the penal system if they can. That is really what it boils down to. They won't want to go away without having at least written a ticket or exaggerated what happened to up the charges. It's all about money these days, and filling the coffers of the Police Departments and greasing the palms of prosecutors and judges etc, etc.

Problem is if she tells police she didn't drink and police get her friends to admit that she did, she will be charged with providing false statements to pilice which is not going to look good in any future trial. Either way she is screwed.

In cases like these it is best to keep your mouth shut until you can get an attorney. Maybe say you're still dazed from the accident, that you can't think clearly at the moment. Then do not talk to police without attorney by your side. Unfortunately, I don't think cops will like that very much, especially in this particular case where they clearly knew the cop was in the wrong and were trying to get any kind of statements from the victim to discredit her later. Still, best advice is not to talk to the cops without attorney present no matter how much they try to pressure you. At least the attorney will make sure that you do not make any blunders while giving statements and that police records those statements correctly. There is a huge difference between "the subject admitted to drinking the evening just before the accident" and "the subject drank a glass of wine 5 hours before the accident" with alcohol blood test coming in negative. A good attorney will make sure the latter gets on record instead of former.

You want an american spring, because some doucehbag cop lied about his deeds in a traffic accident?

I would expect somewhere around 50% of regular citizens completely lie about their own traffic accidents, even ones that cause serious injuries and death.
