Well, walking to the train from school we go past an army and a navy recruitment office, and there were four people outside. Three of them old, and one of them very fat. The three old people had signs up saying things like this is what you'll be a part of if you join up, listing bombings, torture and more. All understandable if you watch MSNBC, so I could nearly forgive that. But the fat one had a sign saying, "Victory to the Iraqi Resistance!"

Needless to say, I was outraged. Me and my friends started screaming, "Traitor!" and "Dissenter!" at him, and an old woman there piped up saying that we were the people who are destroying America!!

I forgot to whip out the old camera phone, but if they are there tomorrow, I'll snap a few shots of these unpatriotic traitors and their signs!

people that hate america... should leave. im not even american (from taiwan) and ive been to a lot of places that have a lot less freedoms... freedoms that those "traitors" take for granted. most countries require mandatory military service, the fact that you have a choice (unless the country is in dire need) says volumes about the freedoms you have in america.

america is a great place to be... i mean why else would all these people be trying to get in? they arent coming in to get oppressed.

Ok first off I have to comment about this I have been thinking a lot about the few people who have the victory to iraqi freedom fighters stuff,
Is it a betrayal? I am not sure it is more of a betrayal to the troops then blindly supporting bush.
I think fonda was a total idiot for visting AA guns in nam and I heard a lot of the anti-war types who preached this stuff were FBI plants trying to discredit the anti-war movement as traitors back then.
I wonder if these guys were legit, protesters or just more manipulation and smear?

Also the OP's lack of knowledge of the war is obvious if he considers a corporate news network dissenting.
I was at a friends house with a TV set and cable yesterday and was amazed how out of touch the media is with how informed americans think.....wow
they have the whole scope of a false reality set up really well now -total mindfvck brainwashing sessions commercials are weird too all cars and bankruptcy stuff...

now I see where people in here come off with this crazy neocon stuff and ideas of what is "normal"....they have a alternate reality set up to fool us into what they think america should be and how we should base our belief systems off of.
I knew it was getting bad last few years but wow. the op is a perfect example.
(sneaks off again)

Who hates America here? Dissenting is not the same as hating America. I would argue that dissenting on topics that are important to you is the fundamental characteristic of being an American.

As someone once said, the 1st Amendment is first because it is the most important, it's the one that assures all the others. To the OP, if you think being a dissenter is the same as being a traitor, I would argue that you are more un-American than those guys could possibly have been. The fact that people are arguing for taking any action to defend democracy while using their next breath to scream at people who don't agree with them is unbelievable. What do you think this country is all about?

Edit: You know why America is such a great place to be? Because you are allowed to think and say what you want for the most part. Just because 51% of the voters voted for Bush doesn't mean you have to like him or respect him or agree with him even a little bit. That's the great thing about our country, and I would suggest that people who think otherwise have more in common with the terrorists than they would like to admit.

the only people that think protesters are traitors are the types who instead of using their own heads believe the anti-american/freedom of speech hate propaganda that rich bush-supporters like bill o'lielly spout out of their whorish mouths on the tv.

From what I understand, it was this sign that bothered the OP:

But the fat one had a sign saying, "Victory to the Iraqi Resistance!"

Before that he was fine with their protests. I agree with him. That sign would have made me angry too. Wishing victory for the enemy? Wishing more success with killing our soldiers?

Eh, no harm done. 99.9999999999% of the people who file by, even if they think that the Iraq war was 'wrong', will file those people away as complete idiots.

Makes you wonder what a conventional world war would be like today. It wouldn'be be a black-and-white us versus them fight like that of the WWs of the 1900s, that's for sure. Would our governments put in 100% and see these people as a threat? Scary stuff.

..who somehow missed the lesson that the price of freedom is the responsibility to work to prevent their elected leaders from getting away with things like the war in Iraq.

Asinine? Yes. Traitorous? Hardly.

Great idea! What are you doing to do next? Open fire on 'em?

Since you don't seem to give a damn about others exercising their freedom of speech, if you're an American, the next thing you should do is go down to the nearest Federal building, and renounce your American citizenship. :|

I understand they have their rights, but what they're doing isn't exactly constructive. Anyone wanting to join already knows what they're in for. If you're in the mindset of joining, a few punks with signs isn't going to sway your decision, nor is it going to bring our troops home any sooner.

"Victory to the Iraqi Resistance!" :| Yeah, I'd probably chuck some eggs at them.

Hell, I've been strongly against the war from the start, but there's a big difference between holding a belief and favoring the enemy. All political leanings aside, any American who roots for American soldiers to be harmed is an ass.

Treason requires action, not passive expression of thoughts. Now if the person holding the sign was signing up jihaddis or enciting the violent overthrow of the government, that would be treason. Someone holding up a sign saying "Victory to the Iraqi Resistance" isn't a traitor, they're just an idiot.

the only signs I see at protests that say that crap are right wingnuts like protestwarriors trying to be smartasses infiltrating a march.
It's a smear tactic right wingers have used to sow dissent and sway public opinion since vietnam.
