You wouldn't think a leaking toilet could be so expensive

For over a year my water bill had been between 180-218 dollars. That's just for water and does NOT include sewer (I am on a septic tank). I figured it was because I'm a pretty prodigious abuser of water. I take long showers, wash a lot of dishes, wash a lot of clothes, and always leave the water running when I brush my teeth. Plus, my cousin was staying here for awhile while he found an apartment, and then my fiancé came and lived her for awhile.

My highest bill when all of us were here was 218.00 dollars. I had a toilet that ran at times during the night, and finally I decided to fix it. One 3.99 fill kit from Wal-Mart later, I had fixed the part, and installed a new flapper.

My new water bills?

Hmm. Should have installed that 3.99 part a lot sooner. Let this be a lesson, fix leaks, running toilets, etc and then you can waste all the water you want from laziness and do it on the cheap.

I had the same situation last year. The bathroom downstairs was leaking like crazy. Luckily my electricity, gas, and water are broken down into graphs in the bill. I realized I was losing a LOT of money from water. So I fixed it up.
