AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brainless (l)user: I opened an attachment and now my virus scanner says I have the Sircam virus

Me: Did the body of the email say "Hi, How are you, I send you this file"

Brainless (l)user: Yup

Me: Haven't I told you through THREE various emails as well as two phone conversations NOT to open emails that have that message in the body.

Brainless (l)user: ummmm...but I thought this one was legit

Me: Did the attachement also have a second extension ending in .bat, .pif, .scr, or .com which I have also warned you about MULTIPLE times via email AND phone????????

Brainless (l)user: ummmmm.....yeh it had a second extension like you said it did

Me: then why (the FSCK) did you open it?????????????????????

Brainless (l)user: because it was from someone I knew.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need a beer. A really big beer.

*hands you a beer

You do tech support/helpdesk, VI? For who?

What's even worse is when I get a call from a customer who's got some things screwed up. "Why did you do the things you did that screwed up your computer," I ask? The reply: "the tech before you told me to do it after (certain time frame for account repush)."

It's great when a technician that knows *jack* is telling the subs to screw up the PC, too.

Not really a help desk. I manage a network of about 25 PC's in office and about 25 PC's in remote locations.

That exchange server can't come fast enough. As soon as it detects an email with those attachments it gets rejected :)

This is why these worms are so damaging. Because they play on the fact that people are fvcking idiots. I feel for you vi_edit, I really do. I worked tech support for a couple years. I wouldn't do that again.

Edit: Just saw your post amish. Same at my office. NO mention of SirCam. I havent gotten it yet (every account is tied into the coorperate address book in outlook), so the minute someone gets it, I (and everyone else in the company) will know who was the dumbass :)

No, they haven't taken care of it, I got it just yesterday.

They can't take care of their own computers, let alone the whole company's.

If I knew if they were running Outlook or not, I'd send it to them. ;)

I make it known to all the dire consequences of opening the virus. Nevermind the fact it could send out confidential data but how I would personally kick their ass.

It also helped having signs all over the office with a picture of what it looks like. Users are like goldfish, they forget in 5 seconds so you remind them every 4 seconds. This means there is even a sign above each urinal and toilet. I had a volunteer put one above the tampon/pad dispenser.

VI if I was you, I would have quit right then and there. I would have totally flipped out at the guy and said, "that's it, i'm out of here."

I feel your pain...

Sitting here with answering machine screening calls, filtering out panicked Win98 end users who think Code Red computer doomsday is about to happen to them because they surf the web with their AOL accounts, despite repeated assurances from me,by phone and in email that it is not

Pssst....SirCam carries its own SMPT functionality. It doesn't need outlook

Windogg's plan counts on the users being capable of or willing to read, though.

Throw up a really good gateway scanner and rest in peace!

Oh crapola, forgot that one. Thanks for the curveball batti

/me goes to Toys R Us for crayons and poster paint for some nice pictures.

Yea, the SMTP gateway is the scary part. We could usually care less in my office since many users are still on cc:mail (yea go ahead and laugh).
