I'd read a few articles that show that 4x and 8x show little to no difference in benchmarks.

I recently bought 2 x800 xl's from ati refurbished. One for my second box and one for my brother for his bday. I had reservations as he had a p4 2.4ghz? machine /w 4x max that currently had a gf4200. He almost ****** his pants when he loaded up HL2 and WOW to see that he got monster boosts in his FPS.

Its a great bargain no two ways about it.

I highly recommend burning in the x800xl refurb when you get it. Let a bench or 3d app run for 2 days straight. My only complaint is that the stock fan on one of them died after 2 days of this (it was making funny noises from the second I got it).

what does this have to do with the op? I think the op is stating the difference between agp4x and agp8x is minimal if at all.

The 4x agp vs 8x agp does not impose a limitation on the fps directly. However in most cases someone who can only support 4x agp will have a slower cpu and or memory which could impose a bottleneck on the listed games above.

I have never played fear so i dont know how cpu intensive it is. If the cpu is not the limiting factor then 4x vs 8x agp should make no noticable difference.
