You tube embedding not working

Got me, I raised the question of not being able to embed a imgur video the other day and was told imgur doesn't not store videos. 🙄

It seems some people are still linking videos on the music page, but something is not working like it was.

Yeah I have to use a workaround to get it to work. I quote a previous YouTube post from another member, then copy the code and just change the number to the video I want to post. Takes way longer of course, but it works for me since the embed feature does not seem to recognize my direct pastes for whatever reason.

Same here. I see some people can have their vids parsed, while others can't. Also, when I chose the embed option using the WYSIWYG editor I got a JSON error.

Use the MEDIA tag. Why one form of embedding was disabled and the other form is allowed makes no sense.

Code:
Use

[media=youtube]6Uhw6Qv2tSw[/media]

instead of

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Uhw6Qv2tSw

As I said in the other thread, the media button is indeed broken and we're working on it. A fix has been deployed in a test environment, and will be pushed live in short time.

Auto-embedding of text links was disabled by your Forum Directors, a decision we fully support if they felt there was a need for it.

after they received multiple complaints on reported posts where that feature became a disturbance and disruption. Although the source of it was only a small number of users, it is a global setting and so everybody was affected.

You did not like my explanation last time. My explanation this time is the same.

BTW, I mean no disrespect. It looks like you've been tasked with a very difficult job. It's obvious that you're working with a shoestring budget and very few resources to keep this site going.

I saw no disturbance and disruption myself, unless is was the GG thread which probably should have been locked long ago from the massive amount of text walls posted there.

So I guess instead of regulating the people abusing the feature, everyone gets a nerf.

This is why we can't have nice things I guess.

I can see it being an annoyance myself. I embedded a lot of videos to discussions that my whimsical imagination just happens to think of. I'm like, "there's a video for this!" LOL

I can also see how a whole page of embedded vids could be a royal PITA for a slow connection like a smartphone. But I guess the media BBcode is there still to use. So that's good. That way every cotton picken vid doesn't get parsed.

In my phpBB driven forum I have about 104 links that can be parsed. Up to and including your own HTML5 sourced video and audio. I wanted to bring a wealth of features to my user base. As a long time forum user from all over the Internet, I always thought that it would be a nice thing to have. So I added it to my own not so popular forum. LOL But I can imagine if I get several hundred users I might be faced with the same dilemma where I might have to turn off the auto parsing of videos or other content.

I have learned that forums are like yin & yan and the simple fact you can't satisfy everyone. There's always going to be that one person who will complain. To me that is part of being a leader as well. In that not everyone is going to like the decisions you make, but someone has to set the ground rules to keep the system on an even keel. This very concept can be applied in the business world.

ROTC has taught me a lot I guess. 😀

Anyway...

It seems like thread pages with a lot of embedded videos like the "What music are you listening to now" load a lot slower than they used to with vB - or am I imagining this?

They did seem a little slower to me, but it was just a few seconds.

It didn't seem to affect anything else except that thread.

Yea I guess you're right - if I look at an older page I've visited before it seems fast.
It's just the new ones that are slow to load

@Carson Dyle no disrespect taken, and none meant in return. I'm simply a terse conversationalist, particularly once office hours are over.

If you'd like to argue the merits of auto-embedding media links, take it up with Perknose and esquared. My goal here is simply to facilitate. The AT community was highly resistant to a regime change when it was acquired at Purch, and so we've left it in the very capable hands of the long-time volunteers.

As mentioned, the bbcode still works for media embeds, and the functionality of the Media button will be restored soon. You are still able to embed media, but you're also able to post it as a simple text link, something that would not be possible with auto-embeds. It's hardly a consolation for the loss of convenience, but at least now there is a choice.

Thanks and it worked with Facebook videos as well by just replacing youtube with Facebook assume it works with the other media listed.

Thanks again
