You thought memory was expensive now

An accident at a Micron facility has their capacity reduced by about 65,000 wafers a month...About 5.5% of worldwide DRAM production. Already tight supplies are going to get tighter, expect prices to go higher faster.

Inotera is also mainly responsible for manufacturing Micron’s LPDDR4 products that go into Apple’s supply chain for iPhone. The temporary shutdown of Fab-2 could have an impact on shipments of the upcoming new iPhone devices as well.
Uh oh...

Thanks for the heads-up, Phynaz. Thankfully, I'm not really in the market for more RAM right now, although I was considering upgrading my RAM for my Ryzen rigs, just to get faster RAM. But I do have enough qty, for the most part.

Now isn't the best time for people to build/upgrade a PC.

RAM and SDD prices are up (in some cases the RAM is double the price it was last spring and summer).

Them there's the video card situation. If you want to game, most mid-range cards are sold out, or significantly more expensive than they were 6 months ago (except the 1080ti for some odd reason).

It's crazy right? Prices across the board seem very high. I paid $90 back in October for 16gb of ddr4 3000 ram and now that same kit is around $145.
I hesitated pulling the trigger on a Mydigitalssd bpx480 when it was $189 and now it's up to $229. Same issue as the ram.....sigh
I'm almost tempted to get a 600p or a WD black but they come with so many compromises but now with this news they might go even higher.

I've the 500 GB 960 EVO several times on sale for $199. That's the one I would go with. I've also seen the 850 EVO on sale if you are lucky enough to live near a Fry's or Micro Center. The Corsair 16 GB DDR4 3000 kit I almost pulled the trigger on Amazon last spring for $70, is now $127. A person can't even find a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 in stock, but they are on Ebay for twice their MSRP.

Crazy times. I've seen RAM prices go up and down over the years (*cough* Samsung price fixing *cough*), but I've never seen all the mid-range cards be so scarce, or priced so much above MSRP.

You can thank the miners/gougers for that.

I like to thank them by whacking them upside their heads, but since they don't leave their basements, I can't find them. ;)

I kid, I kid. They are just trying to make money, and I can't fault them for that. But I am rooting for the value of the crypto currencies to drop, or at least make it where its not worth it for new miners to keep pouring in.

I don't ask much in life, but I need one gosh dang GTX 1060 6GB at, or slightly below MSRP. :p

I can't fault them for buying the cards for mining and using them. I CAN fault them for gouging the prices afterwords. Or whoever's doing the gouging.

I'll be honest with ya man I've been tempted. I got my MSI RX 480 GAMING X 4G 4GB off Jet 8 or so months back for around $155 and selling it for around twice that seems insane but that's what these cards are going for. It is what it is though and if people are willing to pay that then people like me are gonna sell.

Yeah... I recently got some ECC ram for my Ryzen rigs. Just in the past month the ram went from 140 to 150, and just a few days ago it jumped to $168. I hope I'm not going to need any more ram any time soon.
