you think we'll see 120mm fans on heatsinks soon?

man.... at first in the Pentium 1 days... the heatsink fans were like 40mm's.... I remember after that... the P3 socket fans were 60mm's and for the slot P3's... some had dual fans.

Now we're up to 80mm fans on most heatsinks for socket processors. On some high end heatsinks, they fit 92mm fans now! (the SLK 900)

You think we'll see a 120mm on a socket CPU heatsink soon?

If Intel's Prescott is such a heating element as some review sites are saying, we'll probby see a stock 120mm fan in the retail box!

Personally, I think processors oughta work at stock speeds without a fan and just a heatsink.

I presume you would want them just as fast as they currently are, too? Don't you think if the semiconductor manufacturers could make cpu's just as fast, yet cool enough to run passively, they wouldn't?

Hey, Wingznut: STFU, you're in ATOT. There is no logic allowed here, n00b!

Big CFM doesn't necessarily mean big air pressure. 80mm will outperform 92mm in certain applications so no, I don't think 120mm is practical for cpu heatsink.

I hope so. A single 120mm pushes more air than a pair of 80s, and does it quieter.

Edit - Regarding air pressure, that's not as much of an issue in cooling as volume in my experience.

I'm pretty sure "leeter" isn't a word.

|3373R is the correct spelling.

If it gets that bad, why not just go watercooling?

duh.. cause it's iee7er to have 3 120mm fans on your CPU0rz

Watercooling is alot of trouble, and it can leak and stuff easily. I would like a big 120mm fan on my heatsink. Right now I have a 2000rpm 80mm fan. I had a 1300 rpm one and it only got into the 50s (full load). It's an AXP 1900 with an Alpha 8045.
