Ugh, is an unpaid internship the best you can do?

It's unpaid but only 10-15 hours a week and will probably look good on a resume. If you don't need the money for rent/food/whatever why not go for it?

well - yeah thats the thing - unpaid. I already done an unpaid internship at JPL and i did it for my resume, which was mostly programming. But now I'm looking for something that i can continue working there afterwards. Most probably try my self to get in the game designing section rather than the website ****** shot. Is it possible to move around in the company lets say quit and move to the gameing part?

Unlikely, at least not based on your web-designing skills. Game design and web design are two completely different areas, so you can be a pro at writing web sites (asp.net, php, javascript, html, xml, adobe products), but know nothing of game design (C/C++). However, it may help you get a job at the company once you complete your degree simply because they will know you.

BTW, activision seeking unpaid interns? I thought better of them...

Unless they are also programming games at that location, I don't think I'd bother. Unpaid is pretty crappy, and if you have a different internship on your resume this kind of seems like a step backwards.

I wouldn't say different internships look bad on resume as long as the guy stays at school. There are fixed length internships that are not meant to last. However, there is one thing he should be concerned with. He did one unpaid internship, suppose he does second unpaid internship, when he tries to find third internship, what do you think they will offer him? Nothing. That's the thing, companies are greedy, if the OP demonstrated he is willing to work for free, next company will try to get him for free, or royally screw him on compensation. When I was interviewing for full time position, companies often asked if my internship was paid or not. You can guess why they asked it.
