You think Intel will make a comback?

Just wondering what you guys think on how the quad pumped Rambus boards will fare against AMD and DDR.

I already read that Intel transcript on Rambus, but they will still produce these boards. Seeing as Rambus isn't as expensive as it used to be, it might get alot of attention if the performance is there, changing the way people think about the technology.

Obviously Intel will be a more expensive solution, but will the performance be there to beat DDR?

There is no reason for a comeback, Intel is already king! The AMD processors crumble apart if you use the wrong heatsink on them. They are more prone to incompatibilities. I wouldnt' have an AMD even if they gave it to me for free. LONG LIVE INTEL!!!!! DOWN WITH AMD!!!!

Steelthorn.........ROFLMAO!!!!!!! You're Funny!!!!!!!!! Guys like you make owning an AMD SOEnjoyable! But seriously.....yea, if Intel decides to stay in the Chip Business, I believe they will make a "comeback" at some point although it will have to come with new architechture, or, at someone elses expense. There's nothing inherintly "wrong" with the current Intel CPU's......they just cost to much comparably and don't provide the performance most people want! Oh yeah....one more thing, if you question the stability of the AMD products.......you may want to ask what type servers you are on right now!

We will see P4's and future 0.13micron P3's on the DDR platform within a year. This is a part of Intels roadmap.

I can't see any serious competition from the P4 in the near future (6months) or the PIII to the Mustang.
Sadly, Intel has some brand recognition with the name Pentium, and salesmen who will misinform to get higher commissions. Intel may still succeed in holding market share by misinforming the public with higher numbers and "internet experience". The extra cost of their gear ends up a small proportion when included to a whole new system.
Let me tell Steelthorn and co. that stability and incompatibility with AMD is BVLLSHIT. Instead of winding up forums, go do something more noble, go **** your mother.

Not when that 1.5Ghz P4 Compaq costs 3 grand and the 1.2 AMD costs 1800.

Most people will buy a 2GHz AMD not a 1GHz Intel. :D :D

Plus the 2GHz AMD will be 1/2 the price of the 1GHz Intel. :D :D :D

They still own the market. Heck, if Intel decided to quit making chips tomorrow, AMD STILL wouldn't be able to own the market. They don't have NEAR enough production capacity to make enough chips to meet demand.

I REALLY hope that the Athlon kicks Intel in the butt hard enough to wake up the company suits. They have been running for so long with their head in the, aheam, sky that they almost forgot that they actually had to pay attention to the competition. I had hoped that they had learned that lesson with K3/Celeron. I guess not. As a company, Intel has brought a LOT of IC technology to the world (dram, cpu, flash, etc). If they lose out to AMD, it will be because INTEL lost. They currently have all the cards. The market is, as they say, Intel's to lose.

This year, it almost appears that Intel has dropped every single ball they tried to carry. I sure do hope they can get their act together. Competition is good. We need a good, solid fight between Intel and AMD to push performance up and prices down. Of course, I would LOVE for everyone to get together (yeah, right) and settle on a new hardware/software format that actually would get rid of all these software and hardware incompatibilities/instabilities. It's a pipe dream.

I have faith in Intel to keep producing new chips/chipsets that are an improvement in performance and features. :p

Seriously, would AMD be ready to do everything Intel has done as far as setting certain unofficial and official standards and starting new trends? How would AMD know what step to take next? I'm sure them knowing that Intel is developing a 64-bit chip caused a push towards development of their own 64-bit chip (32/64 in the case of the Mustang).

It depends on whether the executives listen to their engineers this time! Intel engineers supposedly b!tched like mad just before Intel made its unholy alliance with RAMBUS. Well, the upper management didn't listen and look what happened... :(

Intel make a comeback? They were never down. Us forum users and hobbyists are but a drop in the market bucket. Intel still enjoys some major thone in the big picture and will for much time to come. They're OEM market is huge, as well as international. :)

Intel was never down, as said already.

I am an Intel zealot too, like SteelThorn, but not like him since I actually consider the competition.

One of the points I have been trying to get across is that we really don't know what the P4 will be able to do until we can actually buy them. All sorts of people started rumors about both the Mustang and the P4. These people were most likely Intel zealots or AMD pushers as the things I have seen people post were mostly trashing the P4 or saying it was awesome.

Another thing, if, and this is a big IF, Intel totally loses the cpu fight. Intel won't be totally weakened and AMD will definitely not overtake Intel within the market as Intel does NOT only make cpus. Tell me this, if AMD gets beaten in the cpu area, what are they going to do? They would probably crawl into a cave and just disappear like Alicia Silverstone. Anyone remember her much?

Plus, Intel prices should be dropping in the future by a bit. The main reason for the prices being so high is because of the high demand and the inability of Intel to keep up with the amounts needed to satisfy everyone. Since I have a relative at Intel, I personally know that Intel is building at least 2 more factories to suit our needs.

AMD is big on flash memory. They focus on more then 1 market like Intel (though not as big).

"ignorance is bliss"
2nd that.. hehe

Amd is in debt, intel has a much broader bussiness then just processors.
(there one of the major contributors working with bluetooth tech. My aunt is heading up some mobile devision thing @ intel she sez they got alot up there sleave :D ;) )

Its about time amd finaly stepped up.. but intel is far from down, just cought off guard.

I have allways been a amd fan hehe, but intel.. well theyll be around for along time.
