I want to fix a cell phone for a friend of mine who's too broke to buy a new one. It's a Moto with a busted screen. So l locate one on eBay at a decent price. What was hard to find was a suitable service manual that would have a drawing of the display assembly. I decided to email the seller and ask them if they had a drawing or a service manual by any chance, they could provide if I buy from them.

Here's what I sent them:

I am interested in purchasing this item. Could you tell me where I
may find directions on how to disassemble the original screen?

Here's the reply:

for that you have to go to school because it is a professional job

confused;

i fail to see the stupidity.

he's giving you good advice, messing with sensitive electronics needs expertise.

besides, you didn't explicitly mention service manual.

why would I want to buy the parts if I were a clueless n00b? No self-respecting experienced tech would dive into an unknown piece of electronic equipment without even attempting to locate a good manual. Iin my experience, anyway

Stupid questions will get you stupid answers. If I was selling that part and someone who was bidding on it started begging for instructions on how to put it in, I'd tell him the same thing.

I agree. You asked him a question, he answered it. Go to school and learn to do such things before you go around asking about them. If you happen to have that expertise already, tell him that.

note: read post before replying.

asking if there is a manual explaining how to do it and asking the guy how to do it are 2 separate things.

It would be a different matter if you asked him if a manual or diagram came with the part, but that's not what you asked him.

He's just covering his ass in case you aren't able to install the item and decide to file a complaint against him for claiming that you would be able to.

Just order the part and do your installation research elsewhere.:D

Wrong, he asked where to get the manual, not if the part came with the manual or if the seller HAD a manual. Don't waste a seller's time with a question like that.

exactly, but the op didn't ask for the manual...only where to find out how to disassemble it.

I'd say it's a pretty decent seller simply because he replied to you at all, without an automated robot. And yes, he's covering himself because he doesn't want you to buy from him, dissassemble, then have you come to him for technical support and/or leave negative feedback because you took apart the item and didn't really know how.

Would you be happier if I replaced "directions" with a "diagram"?

Nope. You asked where to get it, not if HE had one or if the part came with one. It's not up to him to tell you where to get one, only to let you know whether his auction includes one or if he has one to sell. It just makes you look like a potential problem customer who might pester him with emails about how to put the damn thing in when he just wants to sell a ten dollar part and be done with it.
