I like IE6. It is nice and works how I would like it. However since it is of course tied in with every other piece of software that MS makes it can cause problems. I use MS Outlook. I have ever relevant email since 97 stored in my outlook. This is alot of email. I do this for easy access and this is how I keep records of data. Anyways, it takes outlook forever to open. I have Outlook set to run at login. Basically while outlook is starting I can't use IE6. This takes about 10-15 seconds.

I decided to try a change. I downloaded Mozilla 1.1 today. I have tried previous releases and was not happy. I mainly wanted to try the mail program included. I got all my email imported into the program. I am excited about how snappy it is at opening and going between different folders. I setup all my different email accounts. I have two for my old university and two for my current ISP.

Mozilla had a nice feature in that I only have to specify one smtp server for all the accounts. This makes sense because I will be sending mail using my university accounts but I don't care what mail server relays the email as long as the message says"myid@university.edu".

I setup the smtp server and go to send a test message to myself. Here is the error message:

What a lovely crappy error message. "%S" that tells me a lot. I double check the settings and even copy the server name out of outlook and paste it into mozilla. Samething happens.

Here are my settings:

Everything is correct but of course it doesn't work. I have deleted the smtp server and added it back in. I don't know what else to do.

People complain about MS products all the time about how crappy they are but from my experience Mozilla has 100X more problems than IE6 and Outlook. I will agree that some MS products are bloated software but they work.

Sorry about the long rant but I was excited to move to another email client. I refuse to use Eudora since it has burned me in the past. In 97 eudora blue screened on me and killed all my TOC and MBX files so I could not recover any of my email.

Well after getting on IRC with the mozilla gurus, and 30 minutes of banging our hears, I got it working.

Looks like someone doesn't know how to reset a counter in the email client.
