You see a young guy (mid 20's) driving a new wagon

Say you're driving down the road, and you see a young guy(looks to be mid-20s, doesn't look like a teenager) driving a wagon. It's a newer model car, but you can't tell what model it is. You just know it's a wagon.

What are your thoughts about this driver?

Still sounds like a dumb question. It depends on the wagon. I drove one when I was a teenager for obvious reasons, but I legitimately liked it. It was a 92 cavalier RS wagon with the 3.1 v6, so it handled very well and had plenty of power. It really was fun to drive. However I did travel a lot between Mobile and Birmingham, so the cargo space was very useful.

To be honest, station wagons are far more practical than most crossovers or mini-suvs. To be honest, some crossovers look to me like they just crossed a station wagon with a minivan and put them up on larger wheels. Bleh.

I bought a minivan when I was 27 and was single with no kids. Still have it 6 years later and still no wife or kids. I bought it to replace a small truck and use it to haul junk and my dogs around. Had another "cool" car but I drove the van most of the time because it got better mileage around town until this last year when I bought a different "cool" car. The van is the only car I've had for more then 3 years and I don't see myself selling it any time soon. Its just too handy to have around and not worth enough to bother selling.

If it was a WRX wagon or any performance wagon I would think you like performance wagons. Otherwise I'd think you had kids or your parents passed you the car.

Lots of people here in the bay area own subaru outbacks. They're seemingly the most popular with surfers, paragliders etc.

i like madza3 hatch, audi a3, bug eye WRX, new WRX. all cars dont fit the OLD wagon theme.

they are nice 4 door hatch backs...

He wants space to haul stuff, but doesn't want all the downsides of an SUV. Though some wagons are just hot.

XB (okay, this is up for debate, I like the box)
HHR SS (amazing what a blower can do for a car...)

Uhm, your list sucks. The high-perf Volvo wagons are nice...but not "hot". The other are just crap

While I might not be in my 20's, or 30's, or 40's, I enjoy the hell out of my Subaru Legacy GT wagon and if I saw someone in their 20's driving one I would think that he has his priorities together. It's a great "sleeper".

I like wagons...so my opinion doesn't matter much. I work with mostly Germans and other Europeans and nearly every one of them has a wagon back home...and a few have them here. It's all relative.

I love wagons. It was either a hatchback that I was going to buy or a wagon. I ended with a hatchback.

Nobody makes a family wagon anymore. The minivan has taken over that role. Most of the wagons left are sporty enough, I wouldn't think anything of it. Figured he just needed the cargo room.

Very few wagons left in the classic style, meaning the same front end as the sedan with a square hatchback. Jetta, Legacy, and Mazda6 are the only ones if you don't count the upscale European cars like Volvo, BMW 5 series and MB E class. The Mazda 6 is interesting because they sell a wagon (square back) AND a hatchback (fastback).

Wagons are extremely practical. I still drive one.

If you are roadtripping with a friend one can sleep in back while the other drives.

Wagons are simply awesome.

I wanted a wagon when I was in my 20s, but my POS Civic just wouldn't die and I was too cheap to get another car until it did. Now in my mid-30s, I love my Volvo XC70 wagon. Mountain bikes or snowboards up on the roof, friends in the seats, plenty of room in back for our gear. Perfect!

So I'd think the kid you describe is an intelligent sophisticate with good taste. Probably involved with a lot of outdoor, gear-intensive activities.

All that, and smart enough to know you don't need low range and a foot of ground clearance for a graded dirt road or a plowed winter road.
