You put a nail into a tree..........

You went camping and put a nail into a tree at a height of 3 feet from the ground......hanging a hammock. You returned 12 years later and can just make out the head of the nail. The question is........how high is the nail now?

if it were like those trees in the LOTR, it would have gotten pissed, hunted you down, and put the nail in your leg about 3ft high.

Best answer so far.

This is a stupid question. It depends on they type and initial age of the tree. I hate riddles where the answer doesn't consider the facts. What's the point? there's no right answer but what the asker says.

yup, the nail would stay at approx the same hight. trees have these things called meristems or something... Shoot. i remember less of my bio than I thought.

Anyway, trees grow in height (primary growth) from the top, it's not like hair, which grows from the bottom.
