It has practically zero nutritional content, the lowest of just about any vegetable. It contains but one-twentieth the fibre of broadbeans for example. Only trivial amounts of vitamins. Insignificant amounts of folate or carotenes compared with peppers, tomatoes, spinach, red cabbage or baked beans.
AND it is dirty - the way it is prepared often leads to food poisoning. For example a recent outbreak of food posoning in Scottland (from multi-drug resistant salmonella) was traced back to lettuce.
Go for the baby spinach leaves instead. Or munch on a tomato.
