You might be able to speed up Win7 boot *significantly*

Gotten a new SSD and also before i still was wondering WTH does Win7 take so long booting up?

It stays at the welcome screen for 15+ seconds...doing nothing.

On my desktop, my background was always set to "solid color".

Now...change your desktop background to an IMAGE....reboot.

Amazing..... it boots in seconds now. Does this make any sense?

So: If your desktop is a solid color, change to an image and see DRAMATICALLY increased boot time.

Thanks for the tip, but there really must be something else at play here. It doesn't make any logical sense that loading an image file would decrease boot time.

Yeah. It sounds like there might have been registry corruption, and changing something caused that part of the file to be re-written. Either that, or a bad disk sector.

Or perhaps some process was doing an extended startup procedure the first time..... and after that no longer needed to. Like a driver loading for the first time, or maybe AV.

I think you mean decreased 😉

uhm..yes.. DECREASED. By the way..nothing "bad sector"....this happened on every Win7 install. Needless to say its insane now especially since i got the SSD drive for the system now...it shaves off at least 10 seconds from boot time.

Edit: I hear SOME people say they dont have that problem w/ ATI. I have a 275 GTX. That problem i always had, even on fresh installs. As soon as "solid color" is selected it delays the boot sequence on the welcome screen, just sitting there for some time.

Config is the same, same Kaspersky, same startup programs. If you watch the HD light at the time where its waiting you also see there is no disk accesses happening.
