They had a discussion on Jaloponik the the other day about what the modern DeLorean would be, if Back to the Future was remade. What iconic 2000s car would make the grade today. Of course I like to go one step beyond. If you could pick ANY car to make into a time machine, what would you choose and why. Has to be a civilian/consumer vehicle though. No military or commercial.
Here's one of my picks.
Chrysler Turbine Car - The thing looks strait out of a retro-50s "car of the future" display. More important is its engine. When the DeLorean's gas leaked out in BTTF 3, they couldn't drive it since gasoline wasn't available in 1885. The Turbine Car's 130bhp engine wasn't powerful (neither was the DMC-12's) but it could run on virtually any combustible liquid fuel. No refining needed. There was no gasoline in 1885 but fuels like vegetable oil, kerosene, and ethanol were abundant. No modification to the fuels or engines needed.
