You mad bro...

At work, i use Cadence orcad and allegro. And although the program is fantastic... It has sometimes a way to make fun of the user.

It is good practice when you have finished the pcb to check for drc errors.
It will sometimes give a special drc error. When for example the clearance is less than the set clearance of 0.18mm between shapes and other shapes it will generate a drc error. Now remember, the program auto generates these shapes for the user.

clearance = 0.18mm.
drc error, clearance found between shapes = 0.179999999999999999999999999999.

I swear, for a moment i read the text : "You mad bro ! "
And the copper traces on the layers seemed to reshape into :

It has one small issue, but that is a windows 10 issue in general with all programs with respect of clicking a program and it is receiving the focus from windows 10 but cannot accept commands until you click again or a specific part of the program. With multiple windows, the focus is not always correctly restored.

Meh, just set all clearances to zero and you'll be good.

I'm working on an Allegro layout today for a client, and I just ran the glossing tool because I'm lazy. It totally fucked up most of the routing. :D

Nah, cannot do that. I use the constraints manager all the time together with coloring in specific nets. I like it a lot. For example 50 ohm traces it is easy to set up constraints that 0.6mm needs to be between the ground shape and all parts of the rf net (depending on the thickness of the pcb stack up).
Oh, but the drc rounding error issue is easily solved. Just take the shape mouse pointer button and draw one side up from the afflicted shape, let it go and pull it back. The shape is regenerated and the problem is gone.

I was joking.

I kind of guessed that. I really wanted to point out that in general the program is great. The whole cis database system.
The only bad thing is the lost focus issue in allegro when having multiple windows. But programs like microsofts own outlook 365 has the same issue. Click on a button for focus and action, and the program receives the focus, but the button has to be clicked again before the button action is performed by the program. Probably because microsoft wants to cater to touch displays. It is a windows 10 thing.
Although firefox does not seem to have the issue. Or audacity.

When you see things appear in your layout tool it's time to take a break! Those stupid rounding errors drive me mad. Mentor tools do the same thing.

I need to sit down and learn KIcad properly some day. Been wanting to get some PCBs made given it's so cheap now days. Mostly break out boards for SMD-only parts, but eventually more complex stuff too.

With Cadence the focus issues is fixed with hotfix version : 17.2-2016-S022.
I installed it last week.
This program now functions normally again.
Now it is really a treat again to work with cadence for schematic and pcb design. :)

Firefox does not have the focus issue, as many others programs.

Outlook 365 , excel and word still do.
