You know when you've aged when you realize that it had been 2 or 3 yrs since your rev'd your engine past 3500 rpms.

OMG, i was driving my Olds Intrigue today, nice push rod 3800 cc V6 pushing over 200 hp so it's not a pushover engine and i hit it. i mean i really rev'd it. i got it past 6000 rpm and i realized, OMG that's why my car had always felt so heavy and sluggish, i was just driving it in the wrong range of rpms. this engine is built to REV.

alas, i'm over the hill now, i have 3 kids and i can't drive like that with them in the car and this damn 4 speed automatic keeps me passive. .

I GOTTA GET THAT CHEVY AVALANCHE.

Actually, no, OHVs do not like to rev; they are all about low-end torque and mid-range punch. On the top end, they aren't "happy", quite unlike a DOHC. I'm surprised you could get that thing up to 6000rpm with a slushbox. Seriously.

Well any engine is 'happy' with high RPM's, but some are just happier than others...and will stay happy for a longer period of time without breaking. Either way....it is fun to floor it every now and then. Wait, what am I saying, I still floor it everytime I pull out from a red light. I guess that's one of the pleasures of a 1200cc engine....no worries of breaking the speed limit any time soon, or even 'gasp' having the tires squeak.
