"You know you're white, right?" [RAP- Rant]

Okay so my brother came home from being away at college (I go to community college so I stay at home) and he moves into my room which we share (it's kinda big). Anyways I like listening to Hip-hop sometimes. So i'm playing my hip-hop music SOFTLY for about like seven minutes and
he goes- "You know you're white, right?".
So I reply with, "Does it matter? I'm human. I enjoy all kinds of music." (Mozart, Ozzy, DMX, Jimmy Hendrix, techno, some blues...etc etc) ....
so he goes- "well I don't like listening to people talking about 'kill this and F that' and 'n!gga', etc. If I can't say n!gger to them then it shouldn't even be used."

me- "it's just a term used to describe something like, he's my n!gga... like he's my close friend, etc"
him-"well if i can't say it to them then it shouldn't be used at all"
me- "You can use it, I mean i have a lot of black friends that im very close with we use it on each other sometimes. I hardly use it though because it's just out of respect that you don't use it. We sort of lost the right to use that word morally with the past ...etc. But once you get close to someone as in friends you slowly gain that respect and right back. It's just about respect."

Plus he needs to learn that not all hip-hop / rap is like that. There's so much out there thats good and speads a good word to everyone and everything. It's he's almost saying that heavy death metal is somehow morally good compared to rap or something?

People just need to open their eyes and ears.

Peace.

You sure? I sure haven't heard much of it (sure, a few songs, but by no means the majority). Anyway, I agree with him on "great person". Either everyone can say it, or no one can.

as far ars "We sort of lost the right to use that word morally with the past ..." <-- how did I lose the right to use that word morally in the past? can you explain that to me?

DMX is like that, but just because they sing that doesn't mean they want you to kill everyone. Does he watch action movies?

And BTW what music does he listen to?

Ya, explain to me how I as a Korean American lost the right to use this word? if they can use it anyone can, if not, then NO one can. there's just no 2 ways about it.

my brother is a hick. lol 😉

anyone can use the word. it isn't like your mouth won't form it. do as you like, you feel they can use it, so can you.

Apparently your brother feels that white people should have an identity of their own. He was expressing his desire for white culture with the introductory rhetorical question, "You know you're white, right?". He knew the answer to the question, obviously.

I don't think he articulated his feelings very well, though. Possibly they are undeveloped ideas in him. He probably feels alienated, and also feels the hypocrisy in society's affirmation of minority cultural identity, while simultaneously condemning white solidarity.

I think the existence of threads like this help to show that race is not an insignificant novelty or irrelevant feature of mankind.

Can you say BSB or Nsync??

Get NewCompGeek in here to talk to your brother. Or I'll setp up and help him out since I haven't seen much of him recently: To your brother I say "Idiot"

There's nothing wrong with using the word "awesome dude". YOu can use it whenever you want. You just run the risk of it being misconstrued as an insult and subsequently getting your ass beat.

I would perfer not to. 😉

Everyone has there taste in music, forcing something on someone else is like forcing politics or religion. People like what they like, or if they are hip, then they like what their friends like, but thats only if they are very hip.

But just listen to it, some hicks listen to rap to. Trust me.....

<< "enjoy all kinds of Music (rap)"

Sorry to inform you sir, Rap is not music.

Well there you go folks! Straight from the definitive source on what does and does not constitute music.

I thought this was America, where we can enjoy what we want. I find this amazing actually. Suppose someone told Jimi Hendrix that he was black and should not be playing a guitar like white boys and he would have listened? The world of music may have missed out on one of the greatest players ever to live. Just because a majority of certain race has a certain like in something doesn't mean someone else of a different race can't enjoy it as well. Take me for instance. I love rock music and love hockey. Flat out love hockey 🙂 Love chinese food as well. And I damn sure ain't chinese. To each his own. This is a free country.
