Im not going to go into all the disgusting things people put there for various reasons (except of course to get attention or spam a porn site). Lets just say if youtube had existed in 2000 it would probably would have been shut down because of all the illegal material on it (unauthorized videos, etc). I mean, just look what they did to MP3.com, Napster, etc.

So I surmise that people are more into self centered immaturity and rude behavior than trying to get a long as we move forward in America. Just look at all the gangs and bullies in the schools. Its awful and still getting worse. :thumbsdown:

I always think of the high school sexting/nude photos stories nowadays.

If cell phones existed when I was in HS, and were capable of taking/sending pictures, would we have done the same thing? Hell to the effin yes we would have. I would have talked every girl I knew into sending me nudies.

Youtube has more of a positive influence if anything. Sure there's gonna be messed up crap on there, but people find what they search for. So yes it might make already disgusting and tacky people possibly more disgusting and tacky, but it'd also make undisgusting and untacky people less disgusting and tacky.
Plus it brings creativity out of people. Much more people are finding brilliant ways to entertain people rather than the previledged few on air before.

A better example would be cesspool shows like Jersey Shore or Entourage where it glorifies tacky and disgusting behavior and people are just eating it up.

I would have to agree. The anonymity of the Internet doesn't help either. People's dark/bad sides come out in many ways while they are engaged on the Internet. Consider OT for example. Most (99%) of the people within the forum would never treat another person so disrespectfully as they do here ... just because they can. They see no consequences and feel no fear because of the anonymity the forums provide.

The truth is that people are no better or worse now than they were in the past, you're just looking back with a nostalgic eye. Gangs and bullies are just as prevalent now as they were in 1990 and 1960 (although technically the crime rate has actually dropped significantly since 1990). Yes, at least Americans. Americans have become much more selfish, inconsiderate, and boorish over the last couple decades. It started with the 80s yuppies and just gets worse and worse. What started as over the top displays of rudeness have become public displays of crudeness.

I think everyone was always that disgusting, and bandwidth was just to expensive in 2000 and broadband connections to crappy for youtube to have existed then. Everyone always says people have gotten worse, but its just that you can actually see it now because of world broadcast.
