While wasting time on YouTube, I came across some clips from Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, the PSX version. I got all bubbly inside watching these old animated clips, that jostled some deeply buried faint memory of being 14 or 15 years old and playing this game. That kind of led me to look up clips from some of my favorite games back then, Zelda on N64, Goldeneye, etc. Hard to believe that stuff is nearly a decade old now. I must be a complete loser for getting so caught up in it now, haha.

I used to play videogames a lot. At the same time I was addicted to Lunar and Zelda, I was teaching myself C++. I wanted to be a computer programmer, and pursue a career in game design. Figuring out how "bleem!" worked was a huge fascination for me. Funny how times changed-now I'm finishing up a degree in Piano Performance, looking toward graduate school (and work) in the same field. I haven't played a videogame in maybe 5 or 6 years. They don't seem to have the same charm anymore, as if I had time for them anyway. Maybe I'm just getting older.

Anyone have similarly pointless things that arouse some weird, euphoric nostalgia?

I missed Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Disc 1 was left at home though (I'm living 350 miles from my parents), and I had no idea where I'd left that CD, so it couldn't get sent to me. Fortunately, Amazon had copies for about a dollar plus shipping. :) Once I installed various patches to make the damn thing work, and then to spruce up the graphics, I played it through. It looks quite nice at 1650x1050. When I originally had it, I think I might have had a Geforce2, or maybe Geforce4 card. I did once try it at 1280x960 with FSAA for the hell of it - I think I got 6fps. It fared slightly better on my Geforce 7600GT. :)

Homeworld and Homeworld:Cataclysm would be interesting to play through again, but I really liked the new interface and features in Homeworld 2; I might tire quickly of the old interface. And now it seems that the Homeworld franchise has died.
Ok, wait, I take that back. It looks like THQ has acquired the rights to Homeworld. :D
Legal issues regarding the rights to the franchise had everyone thinking it was dead.
Another link.

It wasn't exactly a "patch," at least for the consumers. I think the game originally was to ship with Delphi topless, but in order to get a lower rating, the developers added their "anti-nude patch" and gave her a bikini top, in the form of a single, easily deleted file, and turned all the blood effects green. It seems that there'll never be a sequel though. :(
