When you start realizing you are half way to death when you start watching movies you used to love, then you think about when you watched them were some of the best days of your life (college for me). Then you realize that was 20 years ago.

So, I just started watching Swingers. Which I saw once in college with a friend who introduced it to me (probably via VHS rental at an actual rental store, remember those?)

Sum'bich

A few weeks ago, one of the old time "classic" movie theaters had a showing of The Wrath of Khan. I couldn't resist and had a great time seeing it in a theater again. I remember seeing it for the first time in 1982 as a kid and it brought back a lot of fun memories.

The time between WWII and the year I was born was less than the time I graduated high school and now :^/

OMG, I just realized that the statement above also applies to me:

Time between end of WWII to birth of ICF: 25 years
Time between end of ICF's high school career to today: 26 years

D:

what's sad is the special effects in jurassic park (which is over 20 years old) look to be better than the effects in jurassic world coming out this year.

Yeah, movies rely too much on CGI now and not enough on models. Models still look better IMO and should be used whenever possible.

At 36, I am not feeling old yet. I am just as active as I have ever been and life is relatively carefree.

I really lived it up in college and I look fondly on those days... But I am happier now than I ever have been in my life.

:hi5; Old farts linger....:p

19 years, end of WWII and birth. 33 years since HS graduation but we're not dead yet so +1. The body is bitching more than it used to.

I started feeling old once I passed 25. I don't even want to write out & see my age - it's depressing.

Used o say I was 29 for the x number time. When it was 29 for the 20th time, that was depressing.

Not sure why that's sad. One is a well crafted film by one of the (former) masters of that type of film (the really not that family friendly but somehow still family targeted action adventure). The other is just modern schlock action-sci-fi trash attempting to cash in on the name and nostalgia. Now all the people that went to see Jurassic Park as kids have kids of their own! The original was something unique (mixing CGI that was used very smartly, well for the most part, paired with animatronics and practical effects), the new one is just the same type of crap movie we've been getting for years (honestly, considering your professed love, or at least defense of, most of them I'm almost outright shocked that you're critical of this one), over CGIed blah.

Really this is exactly what you should expect. Especially if you read up on the CGI field and how Hollywood basically shits all over it despite it mattering more for their movies than anything else now.

Realizing that in 2 years (2017) it will have been 15 years since I graduated from high school.(I'm 31 now, graduated from Cleveland High School in Portland,OR.. back in 2002.)

Also, knowing that kids graduating from high school this year.. were born when I was
in eighth grade.(my last year at West Sylvan Middle School.)

I hear that. I also feel more generally delicate. Stuff I used to do without thinking now feels dangerous, and I'm half afraid of fucking myself up (jumping from heights, lifting heavy objects, throwing hard...)

I'm 47. For me it's the music thing that makes me feel old.

I'll hear a song that I grew up with...let's use Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty from 1978. 1978 was 37 years ago. So my kids hearing that song now is like me in 1978 hearing a song from 1941.

That's when I feel really old.

See? Historical references are fun! That would be like you rocking out to Glenn Miller when you were 10 :^D

While all your friends are listening to KISS, this is what you had on the record(Ha!) player...

It does make me understand a bit more when my 14 year old says, "I really can't stand to listen to rock 'n' roll" because I couldn't stand listening to my parents' music either.

Strangely enough my 11 year old (and my wife) love to put the Sirius 40's channel on.

I loved my college days. But honestly my 30s are just as good. Just in different ways. More confident in myself, better job, more secure financially. I have to say my 20s were craptastic. In between land of not being a care free college student, but having a crappy job, not much wealth, and trying to get started.

What makes me feel really old, what has really hit home recently, is the growing belief that I've very possibly peaked professionally. I'm 45.

Rock bands that I consider "one of those new groups I should probably check out sometime" are now performing in Indian casinos.

Nothing is more amusing than people several decades younger than you complaining about being old.

I'm over sixty but still consider myself on the upward curve of life, at least intellectually. There is still plenty of new experiences left ahead of me.

BTW-using the WWII measure-for me more time had passed by the time I finished elementary school.

Oh lsxkllr what kind of sword styles do you practice? I know a couple Dao forms and am learning seven star sword so I can teach the kids. I used to do Aikido but all those Dojos rape you for money like nothing else. I really like eskrima though who I originally studied with was a italian style stick fighter. Its all so close together style wise sticks are sticks after all.

I haven't done martial arts since before WWII :^P :^D

My weapon then was bo though. My style now is destroy everything in my path, with this being my weapon of choice...

If I'm feeling especially bad ass(eg I'm doing nothing but cutting), I add this to my left hand...

whats great about martial arts is even though you studied so many years ago doesnt mean you cant whip it out and practice today. Time is relative. Was it Karate?

nice!

I picked up two machetes from harbour freight last year and added grip tape and they are fun to swing around. The bottom one looks like a great ZA weapon.

The style I practiced was lung fu do. It was a blend of Chinese, Korean, and Okinawan styles with a heavier emphasis on Chinese.

The bottom blade is a Woodmans Pal. It was issued to troops from WWII onward(dunno if it's still in inventory), and a combat manual was released for it at the time, but I don't have a copy.

"You know you are old" is a worthless question.

"Have you actually matured or gained intelligence AS you mature" is the biggest question of them all.

And if you are going back to stuff you used to watch as a teen/20s and still think it's cool, chances are high you haven't matured AT ALL.

First sign of maturity is when you realize that most things you liked during teens/20s are completely worthless/stupid. And all of the things that were boring/uncool and stupid become the things you cherish the most.

;)

Maybe I'm just lucky (I'm certainly blessed to have what I have) but at 44 years old, I feel like I'm living in the best time of my life.
