You're volunteering to fix people's computer problems in return for running SETI.

You check your stats page more than 10 times a day.

Your first reaction to any piece of computer-related hardware is "That's nice, but will it improve my SETI times?"

With apologies to Robert Palmer, for mutilating a song of his that I actually rather like.

To the tune of Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer
ADDICTED TO STATS
By: ShotgunSteve

Your PC's on, but you're not home
Your cycles are not your own
Your proc heats, your chips bake
Another fan is what it takes

You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your money's tight, you want speed
A faster proc is all you need

Whoa, you watch those graphs when they spike and when they're flat, oh yeah

Pretty obvious you think that that's where it's at

Gonna have to face it, you're addicted to stats

You see the signs, but you can't read
You're runnin' at a different speed
You overclock to double time
Another crunch and you'll be fine, a one track mind

You can't be saved
Higher stats is all you crave
And late at night you always dream
Of CobraICE joining the Team

Whoa, you watch those graphs when they spike and when they're flat, oh yeah

Pretty obvious you think that that's where it's at

Gonna have to face it, you're addicted to stats

Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats

Your PC's on, but you're not home
Your cycles are not your own
Your proc heats, your chips bake
Another fan is what it takes

Whoa, you watch those graphs when they spike and when they're flat, oh yeah

Pretty obvious you think that that's where it's at

Gonna have to face it, you're addicted to stats

Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats
Might as well face it, you're addicted to stats

Baldy18 and DarkMajiq have both nailed it for me with their respective comments:

...you have computers that have nothing installed on them but Windows and SETI. - Yep, I got lots of those. :Q

You're volunteering to fix people's computer problems in return for running SETI.
You check your stats page more than 10 times a day.
Your first reaction to any piece of computer-related hardware is "That's nice, but will it improve my SETI times?"
- Yep, me again! :Q :D

<< Good one, Steve :) Are you aiming to become the new PF? ;) >>

I actually did that one back when PF was still here. :(

I am working on a new one, though. :)

You hit the nail on the head there for me. I dusted off an old eMachines PIII 500 with a copy of Win ME and Seti Driver. That's it. I booted it up, and then unplugged the monitor, the mouse, and the keyboard. All it has is a power cable right now. In a week I'll check on its progess and flush the cache. :)

Hmm... I can't help but wonder whether it should help if I installed Seti as a service on my father's PC :D

Hi. My name is Ray, and I'm addicted to distributed computing. And I like it that way. :p

Problem? What Problem? :D

I resemble what everyone else has said. :Q

When you go to play a game and you stop because it will hurt your SETI times. In fact, you don't play PC games hardly at all for the same reason. :Q

When you seriously consider spending money that's allocated to purchasing new furniture on upgades. And are weighing the possible repercussions to such actions as possibly acceptable risk. :Q

I mean, the wife wouldn't really kill me would she? :Q

;);)

This one did if for me.

And the way no-one understands my addiction.....I get no sympathy from co-workers or family. They all think that I can control it, but I can't, it is beyond my control. It could even be genetic.......

I keep my laptop running on the drive to/from work. Had to stop by my dad's on the way home last night and the whole time I kept worrying that the laptop battery would go out and I'd lose a few min. of crunching!!!
