you listen to the music your parents liked when you were a child.

I used to hate my parents taste in music (apart from Queen), but i found myself singing along to numerous songs from Barry Manilow's greatest hits the other day, and one of my favourite bands now is The Bee Gees (don't laugh)

I'm 16 and I feel that already 😕 edit: I don't feel old, just I find myself listening to music my dad does/did

I find myself listening to Genesis, phil collins, bryan adams, eagles, eric clapton, john mellencamp, pink floyd, some others too.

That's all music my dad used to listen to 😕

The Bee Gees? That guys voice gives me a headache. Staying Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive. Getting a headache thinking about it.

Now someone like Led Zeppelin. Dad used to listen to that but I don't feel old listening to it 🙂

Im 20, and with the exception of 1 or 2 of those i listen to that stuff too... Genesis, Phil Collins, and The Eagles are definitely great music.

I am looking forward to the first time I hear Nine Inch Nails on the oldies station.

That is the sign that I have officially become old and crusty.

All so very true! Of course that is more than likely the same thing my parents were thinking while I was growing up!

when i was very little, i started listening to music *because* my father like them a lot and listened to them all the time.

bee gees rule. "how deeeeeeep is your loveeee"

"it's just emotion..... taking me over...." (i so probably screwed that up)

my bf has their greatest hits album around somewhere.

I got into oldies music when I was still in high school. While I listen to some of the music my parents listen to, I definitely don't listen to all of it. "soft rock" radio stations make me feel dead inside.

Plus, despite my penchant for oldies and early 90's alt-rock, I still think that there's tons of great new music being released every year.

I made a promise to never be like my parents musically... I couldn't picture myself in 30 years only listening to music that was produced during my teens and earlier.

That's the problem with listening to oldies music. The only way to produce it is by waiting.

This is a topic i'd have expected Brutus to have posted 😉

though i do find myself listening to my moms music, and liking it, though as a kid i hated it btw i'm only 20

I guess I'm not old 🙂 because I still don't like my parents' music - the boring stuff from the 50's. There's good old music out there, but not the stuff they liked.

I listen to music that was around 40 years before my mom was born. :Q What does that make me!?

Stupid.

music from the 20's and 30's is great.

yes they are.
but if that's what Nik's talking about, it means that his mom was born in the 60s-70s? :Q

Edit: i'm totally amazed that when i did the math, it's possible to have someone here in the forums that has a parent who was born in the 70s. damn, i'm old.

I listen to (and play) music which hundreds of years old. I'll listen to music that's merely months old too. Big deal. So what if you <gasp> share an interest with your elders. OMG, teh noooez!!!!!11:Q Seriously, what's the big deal? As long as you don't listen to Yanni, it's OK. 😀 (too lazy to link to Yanni thread)
