I was in a squad that tried to throw one upstrais once (SOP is to never throw a grenade/flash bang up stairs, our point man was a noob) and it rolled right back down between us. Instead of making a joke about it, we treated it as you would when a grenade starts rolling down the staircase your on... you haul ass UP the stairs.

^^ Room. Door barely opens. Door closes. you see a flash from around the door. door opens, men in combat gear and gas masks come into room laughing.

I thought flash bang was much stronger in real life? Guess not.

I was under the impression that flash bang in real life = you're stunned and all fucked up, get nauceous and throw up... takes a good hour to recover.

Might have been a training flash bang which is not nearly as violent or disorienting, more like a firecracker going off. I know some organizations use these for training. Oh and I never heard about throwing up and all that. They are designed to temporarily blind and disorient you for about 5-10 seconds. Not much longer. Maybe your ears will ring for an hour or more but the true height of the disorientation effect is only supposed to last seconds.

flashbangs do two things

they flash a very bright light, in order to temporarily blind (just for a few seconds)
they bang, and loudly, in order to fuck up your ears

this combination of flashing and banging is disorienting.

so if you have a room full of guys you want to shoot, you throw a flashbang in, close the door, wait for it to FLASH! BANG! and rush in to "clean" the room while the occupants are stunned and disoriented.

the flash is highly overrated. It usually only works at all if its a dark room and it happens to be in your view. Think of it as a camera flash. In daylight its hardly noticeable. The bang isnt that loud either, outdoors = innefective. In an enclosed room ya it can seem way louder and actually hurt your ears, but dont think it will make def or anything unless you are within a few feet of it. But the real stun come from the sudden change in air pressure. Thats why they are also called concussion grenades. Your body will tense up, you will shut your eyes (reflex mostly, not the light) and your ears will ring for at least 10 seconds.
