You know what would be cool?

I'd like a dual board that let the CPU's run at different speeds. Most games wont use both CPU's anyway, the second could 'just' be like 600Mhz for switching background tasks onto...

Anyway, I'm just dreaming. THought I'd add that disclaimer, we'll see how many of you post about how stupid I am for thinking about this. 🙂

Wouldn't it be a nice feature though?

I think they need to be synchronised Otherwise you could put a p3 700 and 800(both multiplier locked and with same bus) and they would run fine, witch they dont.

Actually, it's not a bad idea, running asynchronous CPUs, but the problem will be on both the control logic and OS. Since they'll need to know how to do load balancing on different speed of CPU on the same motherboard, and all the data transfer needs to be carefully adjusted as well. I guess it's too hard and too costly to implement the design, and since even SMP you'll only get about 70% or so average improvement, using asynchronous CPUs will probably gain even less (too much overhead)

I know, but it would be fun. Maybe if one was half the other.. then it would be easier. I wouldn't think it'd be that hard, since Via has already had async memory. That seems as hard to do...
