YOu know what would be cool - an online debate league.

We all love to argue. I wonder if anyone would beinterested in actually having a league. Like high school and college teams, but online instead. I think it'd be interesting, but I was never on the dabate team, so I wouldn't know how to run it. Would anyone else be interested in something like this?

I would. I never was on the debate team either. The only problem I have is that I'm not quick on the draw. It takes me a little time to write out my answer. Most of the time i try to look at both sides of the issue and go for something inbetwen. I don't really know if that is debating, but every once and a while I like doing it.

I'm reminded of the following quote:

Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics, even if you win you're still retarded

I think a big aspect of debate is doing it verbally. Online debate just doesn't seem as interesting.

I wouldn't really call it arguing. I think debate is more about intellectual exchange of ideas. I guess if everybody was fixated that his or her idea was correct then there wouldn?t be any real purpose. I guess that would be true for the people in the debate, but it would give readers outside the debate ideas, information, and other considerations about what ever the debate was about. I also think that debate shouldn?t be personal in nature, but more intellectual like I stated earlier.

yep... and when you make a good point, the look of disgust in the other person's face... that is, if they show it 😛
