For years, my start time was 0600-0630, but since I lived about 100 miles from the jobsite, I got up at 0230 and left the house between 0330 and 0400...usually 6 days per week.

On the rare occasion that I had a day off, I felt like I had slept all day if I slept past 0600.

It's all in what you get used to doing. I actually prefer to start early and get off early...but that only happens when you are working a "normal" workday.

heh..yeah, I've seen those kinds of days too...but on the last few jobs, when we poured concrete, it was 500 yards or more at one time...and something ALWAYS goes wrong...

Pretty much. On a GOOD day, I got home by 8 p.m., showered and into bed by 9 p.m...rolled over to the other side and got back up...and by Thursday, I passed myself on the freeway going the other way...or so it seemed.

I don't miss that part of what I did for my living.

Yeah, getting off work at 7am, i work 7pm to 7am. Alternating 3 day and 4 day work weeks. The 3 days works weeks are great but man the 4 12 hour shifts is a real bitch.

I literally have no time for anything between shifts, its pretty much drive home(30-45min each way), eat, shower, do some chores around the house and sleep, get up and go to work and repeat.

I work a mixed schedule. If I am altering the network, its usually Midnight to 5/6AM local to where the equipment is located. Otherwise, if I am not I work days. Trying living that schedule, especially when it changes from week to week.

I did that for 18 months, until Hynix went out of business.

That was by far the most miserable year and a half of my life. And a direct contributer to my anger management problems.

Worst is having either a long commute or a long unpaid lunch. I used to do 9-6, 5 days a week with a one hour unpaid lunch, and felt like I had no life. Who the hell needs an hour to grab lunch off the clock? Now I do 10-8, but only 4 days a week because the lunch is only a half hour and its paid. Compared to the former job its like I get a free day off every week.

I don't know how I'll ever adjust to 5x8s again. 10 hour days are just normal to me now, and these long weekends really make me feel like I'm living more than I'm working. The 5-day M-F slog is something I never got used to.
