people that argue with the profs!

i have this one guy in my calculus class that always disagrees and second guesses the prof.
finally today the prof was like "you're right! i only have my phd in mathematics, what do i know? why don't you come up here and teach this proof yourself?"

i understand the need to ask questions but when you are constantly interupting the flow of class just trying to prove the prof wrong it gets really really irritating.

I cannot stand people like that. It makes it so much more difficult to learn.

I agree. I've been in classes like that, where some jackass feels he has to interrupt the flow of the class to stroke his own ego.

Yea...how can you disagree? That's just stupid....if you know more than the professor, why are you even in the class?

Yeah, those people totally disrupt the class. I wish something could be done about those people :|

Because it's required for your major. It happens more often than you'd think.

Well, I'm in C++ right now, which as a language I know better than English, but I would never claim to know more than my professor.

What did the guy do then?

haha... seriously... if you have some serious disagreement with the professor, save it for office hours. Plus that extra time in between will give you more time to get a better argument or to see that you were wrong after all.

Its not really that big of a deal sometimes, I like it when the prof embarrasses the student. Sometimes though the profs do make mistakes and I would rather have them pointed out or have them pointed out than be confused with what he/she is talking about.

Take him outside and beat him with that big ole calc book upside the head:)

I also hated kids like this, but usually everyone (me) in class would say somethin like "hey why don't you STFU so we can learn"

during my calc 408c and 408d classes there were many students constantly disagreeing with the professor. but most of the time they were right. some of these professors haven't had regular calculus in such a long time that they can take their PhD and shove it. they make simple addition or +/- mistakes and have to be corrected sometimes.

I once corrected a professor twice during class. I was a visiting high school prospective student. :)

Needless to say, I didn't end up going to that college. :D

i think that people who argue with professors in class are trying to compensate for other inadequacies in their lives...

True... some errors are obvious and need to be pointed out. I guess the trick is to figure which errors you're 100% sure of and others that you need to spend more time to think about.

I've corrected professors, but I do it in a manner that doesn't really interrupt the flow of the class....I play jeopardy and phrase it in the form of a question. I find that it's not so much as the correction that irks the professor, cuz everyone errs, it's the implication that you are somehow better than the professor by pointing out his error. Instead of, 'That should be this', I usually used to go "I don't get how that works out, could you explain it?". 9 times out of 10, the professor will instantly pick up on his error, and it looks like he just made a small slip, which is almost always what happened.

In high school tho, my teacher for C++ was an idiot tho, but felt that because she took a town approved course in C++ for 3 months, she was some sort of expert and I was some sort of newb. It got to the point I had to correct her every time she opened her mouth. She didn't know classes, object oriented programming, casting, or even basic control structures. Heck, she took her sweet time doing "Hello World" because she couldn't recall the include statements. She called me a smart-a$$ and once said "If you think you know so much why don't you teach the class." I got up and started to explain variable scope correctly (she was completely off on it and mixed it up with encapsulation, confusing everyone else in class) and she promptly sent me to the principal's office for being rude. We fought nearly daily, but I aced everything she could throw at me and she tried to give me a "b" despite perfect marks all across the board. I fought this and aced the course. It goes to show, teachers don't know everything they're supposed to teach.
