So if the article tells you exactly how to do it (including how to install WinZip), what special knowledge do you need?

This is what I said

"I've done it and its a lot more extensive then the iOS jailbreak. Several more steps and quite a bit more knowledge. Still relatively easy for the technically inclined, don't get me wrong. But iOS is quite a bit easier"

And it was WinRAR, nobody uses Winzip anymore.

I suppose the knowledge part comes when you do it all manually without the toolkit which is how I did it. You just have to use a command prompt but you'd be surprised how many people are clueless and get overwhelmed by things even like that guide has. I've sent it to people and they are like "help me". Where as my sister who can't do shit on computers jailbroke her iPhone without me entirely.

My point is that android is more extensive, that's all I was saying. You can't argue that it isn't.

I didn't JB my iPhone for security reason. I lost all trust with the iOS 7 JB when it was first sold to the Chinese hacker website group. My AppleTV is jailbroken but they can't steal my personal info from the AppleTV.

The first version of the jailbreak included the chinese hacker app that allows you to download hacked apps. That is what caused the up-roar and they removed it basically over night for those of you who didn't want it - even though it didn't install on your iPhone unless you lived in China.

I've rooted more phones than most people have seen in their lives. Its usually a one click deal. The most complicated was my Verizon Note 2 that involved unlocking the bootloader. That only required computer knowledge because the tool was hinky and you had to try multiple versions to get it to work. I currently have an iPhone 5s and I cannot possible jailbreak it.

So comparing what it would take to jailbreak the iPhone I have right now to what it would take to root your HTC One, my iPhone would be a lot more extensive.

Only because you updated it. Your fault. Jailbreakers know not to update it without checking if it is compatible first. You didn't care which is why you updated it.

So no, I'm comparing a jailbreak on an iPhone to a root on an Android. And like I said, you could most likely walk into an apple store today and buy an iPhone brand new and its still jailbreakable since it would have a version that is under 7.1. Which is besides the point because most people who want a 5s already have one, and bought it under the period of time that it was jailbreakable or before the jailbreak was released. AMDHunter didn't just get his 5s (presumably) and yet he chose now to complain when the jailbreak is broken. If he cared before he could of fixed his problem, but he presumably also updated to 7.1 which is again, his fault.

but the real question for you two is who's penis is bigger?

This is how Zenny and I bond. The fun part is for the longest time I was on Android and he was on iOS. Now that's flipped.

Its just good old fashioned fun in a thread that doesn't belong in OT anyways. Might as well have a good debate.

About the same size. We've compared.

I still like iOS and android. My iphone 4 is now my iPod and I use it regularly still. But my main phone is Android.

What cracks me up is those MS phone people and BB folks. Poor souls.

So they say. Who's to say they didn't leave some funny business in the jailbreak? You're dealing with hackers and thieves who sold out for money.

I knew exactly what was going on when I rooted my Galaxy Nexus phone and Nexus 7 tablets. I didn't use any kind of one click crap and I entered everything manually line by line so I could see everything. With the Apple JB, you're leaving your trust with some hackers and hoping they didn't add something sneaky in the one click jailbreaks.

So you updated to 7.1 already and yet you had an eternity since the last jailbreak to come out all the way up to 7.0.6 and you didn't do it and then you bitch about not being able to do something you could have done all along if you had just jailbroken when you had an opportunity.

I was jailbroken. I travel once a month to the Dominican Republic where electricity goes out a few times a day. There are generators that run on batteries that kick in and, while my iPhone charges fine, it will get stuck at 1% and not move until I do a factory restore.

So I could have either stayed jailbroken with a phone that says 1% all day, or factory reset it and know how much battery I have.

Besides, I shouldn't have to jailbreak to move my icons to the bottom of the screen. It's aggravating how annoying iOS limitations are. Especially when my daily drivers were all Nexus devices.

I really wish Windows phones were better. That would solve so many of my headaches.

I love Android. Still haven't decided on iOS. I can't say that things are that much different. Except I really like the swipe up toggles on iOS. And I hate that there isn't a back button. There should be a damn back button.

Thats bizarre. Never heard of anything like that. I'd be surprised if that is related to the jailbreak directly and not something you perhaps installed on it.

But regardless. Sounds like you jsut need to get off iOS then. The limitations aren't going anywhere without a jailbreak and its easier to switch then bitch

'wow i can choose my own keyboard, and type by sliding?' apple doesn't trust it's users to use a keyboard of their choice.

FYI: iOS 8 allows custom keyboards, including Swype.

I've been thoroughly unimpressed by Android fans' favorite keyboards, though. I'll probably stick with the standard iOS keyboard primarily.

I've been unimpressed with all but swype for android. I will say that I think a lot take getting used to and I haven't had the patience for it. Never could get into swiftkey.

I'm really digging the new changes to ios8. Integration is top notch and while the os should have had some of the stuff a long time ago it is implemented well.

yes. years and years later apple has finally trusted it's users to use a 3rd party keyboard.

i've been particularly impressed with swype and swiftkey.

now you are finally getting widgets, albeit limited. android? had it for years.

now you are finally getting extensibility - in other words say now you choose a picture to edit, you can now select a third party app installed to do it with. again, something android has had forever.

good to see but a lot is just playing catchup to android.

And you still can't arrange icons on your home screen the way you want. F Apple.

Need some clarification. Are you wanting to rearrange the order of icons?

Or are you wanting to rearrange the layout of icons (e.g. icons only on the outer frame, leaving the center blank/clear of icons)?

I know you can do #1. Don't think there's an inherent way to do #2.

#3, he looked around for something the iPhone couldn't do then made up a rant about it. What he actually wants to do does not apply.

i never understood the fascination of wallpapers on computers and phones. i've never been using either where i just want to stair at my background and do nothing. if i wanted to do that, i'd just be picture viewing.

the background on my computers is whatever the default is for osx and just a black screen on my windows machine.

On a desktop PC, I have a background solely for periphery "looks" - but I never intend to stare at it for long.

A phone? Forget it - I rather have my screen be readily accessible without "zeroing" my fingers and thumbs on an icon, or spot the name apart from the background.

I do not stare at the screen for long - since I get in and out with my phone. When in motion, it can be grating with the busy graphics to account for plus the moment of motion of my arm and whatever vehicle or walking I do.

Also... if one wanted such wallpapers while keeping the functionality of buttons all around, Windows Phone in my opinion has none of the icon zeroing in, folder drum-down, and one can wallpaper stare...

Kind of like looking in a real window on the wall!

Though I would not make use of "transparent" non functioning tiles.

Ah no. I am a huge iPhone fan, and an even bigger fan of the Nexus line of phones. I chose the 5s over the Nexus 5 because I liked it more.

I just wish you could arrange the icons on the home screen the way you want. What's the point of having a nice wallpaper on your home screen, just to cover it up completely with a ton of icons?

That kind of makes me want to pull my Lumia 920 out of the drawer at work. It hasn't been charged in 6 months though.
