So you updated to 7.1 already and yet you had an eternity since the last jailbreak to come out all the way up to 7.0.6 and you didn't do it and then you bitch about not being able to do something you could have done all along if you had just jailbroken when you had an opportunity.

Sounds like you're the idiot. Anyone who wants to customize and iPhone to their hearts content can do so with a jailbreak. Not that hard and takes 5 minutes to do

Also, iOS 7 doesn't look like that and has been around since 2013 so you posting an outdated and biased stupid picture doesn't help your argument when you admit that you're running the newer iOS in the first place.

My Blackbeery Z10 and wife's Z30 don't have that problem.

Also, the keyboard on my phone doesn't suck like the iPhone keyboard.

Yea, you have the problem of having absolutely NO APPZ!!!!!!

Much better problem to have.

There is iOS and Android and thats it. MS and BB are dead, dying and completely irrelevant in the smart phone world

a realtor client of mine just got the s5 the other night. met her for a photoshoot and she immediately says 'i am in love with this phone' - i'm like what did you have before - iphone.

she said she spent all last night learning and playing with it and is blown away. also, she said the voice recognition is night and day between the two systems. the accuracy on her S5 was very impressive to her.

HAHAHHAHAHAHA no.

If the voice recognition is anything like S-voice on the Galaxy Note 3, then it's HORRIBLE.

Also, I messed around with Android touch keyboards again recently and found them to be incredibly unresponsive.

why use S-Voice? Google voice recognition is the bees knees.

also she was like 'wow i can choose my own keyboard, and type by sliding?' apple doesn't trust it's users to use a keyboard of their choice.

I'm not. I've switched to android. I still like iOS as long as you're jailbroken.

How is arguing the absolute necessity of jailbreaking going too far when he wants to do something that requires jailbreaking?

Droid is the same any way. The first day I got my HTC ONE I rooted and loaded a custom ROM. There is plenty you can't do on Android either without rooting. The difference is that rooting is a prolonged process that actually takes some skill. Jailbreaking an iPhone requires plugging it in and pressing the mouse button a few times and thats it. It's literally that easy and any excuse not to do it is complete and utter bullshit

I think the OP is arguing that something so basic/simple shouldn't require jailbreaking a phone and potentially voiding the warranty.

Jailbreaking doesn't void your warranty because:

a) either your phone is still usable enough that you can remove the jailbreak in 2 minutes before taking it back to the Apple store.

b) the phone won't even power on for you to remove the jailbreak, thus the Apple Geeks can't tell its jailbroken either when they replace it for you at the store

Zenny tends to take the iOS threads to heart. He's actually a decent guy but for some reason anything negative about Apple directly hurts his butthole.

Accept that I've moved on from iOS so not sure how that applies.

What irritates me is idiots who don't jailbreak their device when they clearly want to and argue ridiculous factors like warranty and other nonsense.

My issue is with people who argue that they don't want to jailbreak when they should just have done it and quit crying about what iOS doesn't do without it. Or just move on to Android and quit bitching.

Wrong, I've done it and its a lot more extensive then the iOS jailbreak. Several more steps and quite a bit more knowledge. Still relatively easy for the technically inclined, don't get me wrong. But iOS is quite a bit easier

No I'm calling you out on this one.

Rooting your phone required no special knowledge. Please tell me what special knowledge you needed to root your phone other than clicking a few mouse buttons?

There is no jailbreak for the latest iOS update. How's that for a factor?

i never understood the fascination of wallpapers on computers and phones. i've never been using either where i just want to stair at my background and do nothing. if i wanted to do that, i'd just be picture viewing.

the background on my computers is whatever the default is for osx and just a black screen on my windows machine.

The lock screen on my phone is a picture of my niece. I do get the phone out of my pocket sometimes and hit the home button just to look at it. Plus, it's really handy when I'm on a date and we start talking about our families. Pull out the phone and they're seeing a picture of my niece in a second, without the ability to scroll through the rest of my pictures.

It's cool, but if I lost the ability to do that, I think I could find a way to soldier on.

Just look at that toolkit and all of the commands it has.

The iOS jailbreak has one button labeled jailbreak and you press it. Thats it.

The toolkit is an extensive tool but there are still several steps you have to follow, in the right order and many more when you want to install a custom rom.

Here is a step by step guide

http://blog.laptopmag.com/how-to-root-htc-one

That is 32 steps.

Then there is more to learn after that if you really want to hack the shit out of your phone: How do you get S-OFF? Do you want to update the kernal? Do you need to?

iOS has 3 steps. Download eVasi0n, run it. Click next, click jailbreak. Done

yeah but he's not talking about the lock screen. he's talking about the background while he's using his phone and looking through icons to click on.

Thats my point, 7.1 came out when? April 22nd it looks like. The jailbreak has been around since Christmas and it was just broken with the latest version so that is 6 months he could have jailbroken if he really cared. Instead his timing is perfect. Even if you go get an iPhone today, chances are it would still be loaded with an older version of iOS 7.0 - 7.0.6 and not 7.1 unless it was manufactured in the last week and a half right?

So if the article tells you exactly how to do it (including how to install WinZip), what special knowledge do you need?

7.1.1 is the most recent.

Stop while you are behind.

I didn't JB my iPhone for security reason. I lost all trust with the iOS 7 JB when it was first sold to the Chinese hacker website group. My AppleTV is jailbroken but they can't steal my personal info from the AppleTV.
