Since ATI is by far, the king of video (and I mean video playback like DVD and realVideo, etc.) they should make one or two products....
Basically, slap the Rage Theatre chip on a seperate PCI card and have a "multimedia video centre" upgrade!

So that card would do DVD (although I think DVD is handled in the Radeon chipset.... throw in something here) plus all desktop video playback, video capturing (MPEG2 or better) and that kind of stuff.

We know video capture cards already exist.... ATI should make the same deal but a little bit better/more.

I almost forgot about the TV Wonder that already exists.... but they should make a newer version - one that improves DVD, all internal video playback, improved video capture.... all that stuff. One with VIVO, one with TV tuner.
Basically, what the VIVO and AIW cards already do MINUS a 2D/3D video card. :)

That way, I could know I've got awesome video capture without fear of LOSING it if/when I upgrade video cards. It's expensive to buy AIW cards every time.

My two cents.

Really? My ATi TV Wonder VE sucks at video capture, I havent toyed with it much, but the default settings either give me shitty quality or way too distorted video :|

Do a search for a program called "Descaler". Also, consider the source of the video. Are you capturing from regular cable, or via S-Video from another source like a camcorder? Most regular cable signals look awful on a monitor...they are designed for a TV..

yeah tell me about it. I bought a used non-HD TV, hoping to watch DVD's on it. The DVD to Svideo to RCA to TV thing didn't work out so well. And yeah, I tried it through regular TV cable.

What you describe sounbds a lot like a ATi TV Wonder, except with a few more features.

I was looking for the product about a month back. I had a Radeon 64 ddr vivo card that I used to watch tv through a vcr and then play xbox on. I picked up a haupauge TV card, and the quality is horrible, plus I have no dvd decoder to work with... I would definitly buy one of these if ati put one out

A "Rage Wonder" daughter card would be a great addon to the 9xxx cards....hmmmm

ATI will probably be releasing an AllInWonder version of their 9xxx cards a few months from now. It usually seems to take about 4 months, but they've released a new AllInWonder card with every major chipset revision.

I'm sure that it won't be cheap, but it will probably do what you're looking for.

ATI should make money if they play their cards right. :)

Haha... woohoo! Two puns in one sentence! Hey where are all you guys going?
