You Know Those Commercials That Play In The Grocery Store In Between Songs?

I stopped at the store this morning on the way home from work. I went over to the service counter to pick up the weekly sales ad, and I was flipping through it at the counter before I started shopping. I noticed that French's mustard was on sale, and as I spotted that, I realized that there was a commercial playing for French's at that moment.

I just caught the last line, and I would almost be willing to bet money that the speaker said, "French's... it tastes like crap!" :Q

Unfortunately, the commercial did not play again before I left the store, so I could not confirm it.

The last time I was in Hallmark I heard an instrumental version of one of Eminem's songs.

I think they are trying to appear hip to attract younger shoppers

I used to work at a grocery store, and they always play cheesy stuff like David Grey and the like. Not sure how it managed to get in the rotation, but one night they played this screaming goth rock song on there, and we were all like wtf? A lady came up to my register and was like you play an interesting selection of music. Back to our regular music, and we never heard it again.

Back in my carefree youth I used to live in a "funkier" area of town, ie. lots of students, Yuppies and try-hard fashion designers. The local Safeway, on a Sunday night only, seemed to allow the staff change the radio station from the "golden oldies" station to JJJ (Australian non-commercial youth radio station).

Strange how I started enjoying grocery shopping and the number of young (and some, not so young) people shopping at the same time.
