how does optical work? does it send the info through a laser or something?

I believe it's just light. Similar to optical mouse.

doesn't an optical mouse just use light to bounce off a surface and measure?

is there anything I can have to be able to use an optical connection on my pootah? 🙁

You could buy an audio card that has optical ins and outs but unless you are doing music recording or video editing it would probably be a waste of money.

My Soyo K7V Dragon Plus KT266A has optical in and out as well as coaxial in and out but I have never used the optical. I use coaxial to connect to my receiver.

Optical cables tend to cost more and provide no acoustical benefits over coax cables whatsoever. I just stick with coax.

It was just the fact my 10 split speaker + sub + amp setup has an optical input that I wanted to make use of and when i originally bought it it came with some optical cables 🙁

Oh well 🙁

You should definitely have a coax input on that setup if you have optical. Just get a cable.

Yer its got a coaxial connection hole on the back, little orangey yella one..

Hmm wonder if i got a cable ...

Omg how fvcking cool, i just found this coax cable that came with my setup, plugged it in and it sounds so much clearer!

My amp popped up a little message saying "Digital connection now engaged" and the lil dolby digital logo displays n everything.

Cool 😎
