I am fairly new to all this stuff. I have been looking into a better system for my car lately. My current system si stock so it won't take much to be better. So far from what I have read and looked at I think I want the Clarion DRB4675 for my head unit. Hereare the specs for it. I found it for $150 from another place. What do you think about it? Is there something similiar or betterthat may be cheaper? Let me hear your thoughts.

Also, I know a guy who is offering to sell me his 2 Punch subs (10", 8ohm, 100rms/200peak) for $50. If I go this route, I am going to need an enclosure (bandpass or other), and also an amp. Keep in mind my budget is fairly small. I have at least $300 total, but not sure how much more than that. Since they are 8ohm, I would wire them in parallel to bring it down to 4ohm, them bridge an amp (how big, what kind?) to make it all oen channel. Does this sound right? I know my $300 can't buy all this, but I want to hear what you guys suggest that is good quality yet value priced.

Thanks.

I was an installer like 10 years ago so lost all my skills. It's better if you check out the sounddomain.com boards they some expert there that can help you out.

Well, 300-50=250. That leaves prolly just enough to get a good amp for your system. Goto eb@y, sounddomain.com, etc, and find a quality amp. I would suggest going on sounddomain.com's message forums and posting in the amp section, asking for where to find a good amp that puts out 200w @ 4 ohms mono.

The radio is fine, a little low on rms, but not by much. It does not state that it has pre amp, rca outputs. More than likely it does, but this makes hooking up the amp a lot harder. How old are these subs? You don't see many 10" sub woofers at 8 ohms. Make sure that they work, a bad voice coil or a small crack could really slow you down. What are you putting it in?
If your car is older, than you might not want so much pushing in it. The wires are going to cost you at least 15 for the wires to the amp, and then, if it does not come with it from crutchfield, wireing harness, ant exten.(sometimes), and a dash kit(sometimes). The amp, for the cost and what you are pushing, I do not know. Bostwick makes good cheap amps, but hard to find. A higher end sony would work but for the wattage, it would take almost all of your money. The most popular and very good would have to be the american made amps, such as PPI and Rockford. But they are going to cost you.

Still according to your vehicle would be your box. In most cases i would recommend a Band pass. A little more expensive but great bass for all speakers.

Have you ever installed a system before, and are you planning on doing it this time?
If so, do not cut corners..., do not depend on electrical tape.
For installing the amp, the amp instructions are usually the best to follow.

That Clarion deck has 2 sets of 1.8V preouts.

Are you going to leave your stock speakers and power them with the headunit, and just add subs and an amp to power them? 2 8ohm subs isn't a bad idea, since you're not going to find a cheap amp that is 2ohm mono stable. You can pick up a fosgate 250a2 for around $165 if you look around, and that is rated at 250Wx1 @ 4ohms. In reality it'll probally do closer to 300, which would be 150W to each sub.

For now I am leaving the stock speakers, this is an Escort wagon, so space isn't really an issue. I hope to upgrade the speakers in the future as well, but for now I want the head unit and subs. I plan on doing the install myself, with some help from paps or my enighbor who knows about this stuff somewhat. I have made entire wire harnesses for boats and rigged them, and I have good soldering skills and such, so I think I can handle it physically.

If I could find that RF 250a for about that price that would be awesome. Keep the ideas flowing though.

Is that a good head unit for the price?

WTF,
dude, get a new head unit and better speakers first. Or wait for BestBuy or Circuit City to have one of their sales where they give you speakers for free with the purchase of a head unit.

You don't want a lot of bass and no good sound coming from the speakers,
unless you're listing to homie ghetto music? Sound clarity and quality are more important than bass.

Thats why my new truck first got a new head unit(pioneer) then some front speakers w/tweeters(RF) driven by an amp(PG), lastly I added a 12" MTX thunder Sub powered by a 200w Planet audio amp.

If your looking to save the most money, don't buy a retail sub box. Do what I did. Go to circuit city and buy one of there close out subs. Ok its used but it only cost me $12 plus they sold me the box it was in for $20 so they didn't have to waste time removing it.

When you do shop around, rememmber to shop smart. Shop S-mart.

Yeah...shop smart and don't buy RF. 300 bucks...The deck is nice. But I'd check to see if you can get one of the lower drx's. As for subs, I'd get a single 12. Check out IDQ's or even JL's. For amps look into ESX...a 1752 is about 225 dollars and puts out a nice 500 watts. Don't even bother with buying a box. Build your own. Half the boxes being sold are not built to spec for your subs.
