You just can't go wrong with a good motherboard

I bought this Abit BH6 motherboard several years ago when overclocking the celery 300a to 450mhz was the rage. We all thought it was pretty great getting a 50% OC out of a chip. I'm sure there are some of us here still using them. (didn't I sell mine to one of you guys??)

The BH6 served well with that cpu, after about 18 to 24 months I decided to upgrade it. I bought a slocket, new HSF (Golden Orb) and a P3 700e that was guaranteed to OC to 933 from Compuwiz. Steve was a good seller of tested overclocking supplies in the FS forum and I bought several times from him.

It ran that cpu just great but not at 933 due to the pci divider problem on this board. Even so, it ran at 124 FSB for a 868mhz OC.
It's put out a WU every 6.5 hours over the past 18 months or so, and just the other day due to the demise of my MSI BXmaster mobo I moved my new P3 1000 (100fsb) chip with alpha heat sink and dual 60x25 Sunon fans into it and cranked the fsb up to 124mhz.

So now the venerable 3 and a half (or is it 4?) year old motherboard is cranking along at 1240 mhz, putting out sub 5 hour seti WU's. :D:D:D

Yeah, it's a keeper ;)

Now, where to stash the P3 700E ???

Better look in FS/T for a board :D

I'm glad you're having great experiences with Abits.. they are OCing champs! Personally, I've had tons of problems with them... blown/bulging caps on several boards. :( I do have a BE6 running a C2-600 @ 900 currently! :)

<PLUG type="shameless">
I've got a Socket370 board collecting dust. Details in my FS/T thread. I'd be willing to sell it for a bit less to a TeAm member. ;)

GeoffS has already made me an offer I am finding hard to refuse on a mobo, psu & nic...
hmmm another 4 WU's a day

Anyway, I've had troubles with other Abit's too but that old BH6 just keeps on running.
Just remembering it now, when I got this I had ordered two of them. The other one is still running too, I built it for a friend.
Amazing I never thought the old BH6 would be running at 1.24 Ghz, but here it is!
Abit's most recent bios for this board is P3 coppermine aware, so it's a good match.
I'm pretty happy with it, for the wifes machine anyway. ;)

Wow that's good!:Q:D ,that matches a Duron 1.2GHz I had!.
Btw is that PIII 1GHz a Coppermine? ,if so that's an awesome overclock!:)

Not selling that PIII 700 are you?

Forgot to say ,my father had an Abit KA7 ,after just under 18mths it blew its caps:( ,apprantley these mbrds had a duff batch of them.:disgust:

My BH6 ran fine for 3 years, swapped it out for this Duron setup. When I went to use it for a PC I was building, it died. :( Up until then I'd never had any problems with it at all. :D

I do have to say that this BX6 2.0 has lasted me almost 4 years now. A pii450@504 (527 when not running fs2002 for hours) with a standard hs/f has been powering this thing. I can't seem to get any higher mainly because I have so many PCI cards in thing thing I only have one slot open. :D no ISA.

When I bought this thing I wasn't sure how well it was because it was new. I bought it at one of those "great computer shows" I do have to give credit as this has been one of those most stable computers that I have ever owned. I just hope the next computer I build will be as stable.

heh, maybe the key is to never leave it turned off for very long...

Mines been running 24/7 for all these years except a couple power outages and time to swap in new chips & HSF's
It's always been running and crunching. I'll bet if I let it cool down for a few days it would blow up on power up ;)

Anyway, I'm very pleased with it.

Yes Assim, it's a coppermine cpu. Slot 1 P3 1Ghz 100 fsb - overclocked to 124 fsb for a 1240 mhz cpu. I was surprised to find the BH6 would handle the SECC2, apparently it's not that much different from the SECC1.

It's a retail chip, so I had to remove the retail HSF in order to get the Alpha on it.
The Alpha and dual Sunons are so big I had to remove the PSU from the box and hang it out the back. Looks kinda funny, but it works ;)

It does some WU's a little under 5 hours and some a little over 5 hours. Running Win XP pro there isn't a lot of variation between WU's no matter what the AR.

I sold my old BH6 300a@504 combo a few years ago and it's still running today. I'd guess it's between 4-5 years old now and still kicking.

I'd like to say that the BH6 is IMO the first and last good ABit board made. I owned a few since then and each one went RMA or dead soon after running. Switched to using Asus and have been solid since. :)

Yeah, that's the only Abit board I currently own too.
I had a BX6-2 but I sold it a year ago.

The rest of my systems are all on Asus, except the company server - that's on a SuperMicro server board.
