*intramural even

btw...i personally think frat boys suck. If you just wanna get piss drunk, go out with your friends. You shouldn't have to pay for your friendship or admittance to a house. That's just silly (unless you're living there).

We are about to get all the proof we need (as evidenced by the previous two posts) that exclusion causes jealousy. People who are not in frats have no idea what they are about. They think they do and they will rant for hours about how stupid they are, etc., etc all in a pathetic effort to make themselves feel better. Get over it.

ooOOoo....it's not exclusion that bothers me....it's the point behind them. I don't drink and there are very few frats that support no alcohol. It'd be pointless for me to join a frat.

A very good friend of mine is Sigma Epsilon, and I have a suitemate that is Alpha Tau Omega.

Let's just say, I don't think its exclusion causing jealousy. Maybe I'm glad I don't come home at 4 AM and am so drunk that I piss all over my own bedroom wall from initiation. Maybe I don't want to chug 4 beers at 9 AM before my Sequence, Series, and Multivariable calculus class. Maybe I'd rather keep my $7000 that I'd spend on fees for two semesters, and this does not include living in the house.

I knew a bunch of guys in frats in college, and the best thing to do is just makes friends with those guys and get invited to their parties! ;) Same chicks, less money. I almost rushed Kappa Sigma, but changed my mind right after getting my pledge pin :). The pledge coordinator yelled at us for about 20 minutes about how we would basically get our assess kicked if we didn't point the bottom of the pin directly at our right foot, with your feet shoulder width apart.

So I went home, thought about it, and said fvck it.

I was already going to all their parties, and the parties of other frats, so I figured "Why bother?"

You should give it a shot, but don't let them mess around with you too much ;)....

Frats are really stupid.
(and don't tell me that's from coming being excluded from frats: I am over 21 and have a car ... they almost would pay me to join.)

Frats = for childish 17/18 year olds who want to get really, really drunk

Hey, they can't even really party; it's only getting drunk with them.

Get over what? A few of my friends were in frats and sororities and their stories only confirmed what I've been told in the past about them. It's paid friends, IMO. What can you do in a frat that you can't do outside of one other than paying "dues" in order to be apart of it?

Has nothing to do with hate...
More with reason and independence....
If you miss it so much, join the military....
College Campus should be a place without "ranks" and hierarchy...
Think about it....

Wow...you guys really are misinformed.

My fraternity, Phi Kappa Sigma, is nationally dry. As seen in my sig.

Our housing bills actually are cheaper than living in the dorms, and we get to throw parties with that money. And we've never made a person drink that didn't want to; unless you've been living in a cave for the past few years, most fraternities have changed because they've had to. There have been too many lawsuits and accidents related to alcohol for things to remain the same.

I will agree, for the most part, that at a state school (or similiarly large school), you can get by very well without being a member of a fraternity. But you will miss out on a few perks...:D

I was in a frat, I know everything about them, and I think they're stupid. I went inactive and guess what...my brothers who were really my friends still talk to me! The others don't, and I'm glad because now I know who my real friends are.

There was a big old frat issue at my school, well not big old but it was an issue. It made me cringe reading the school newspaper about frats being so great and all (well that happens naturally with the school newspaper itself). They kept stating how they were all inclusive, and they never do hazing following school policy, drinking underage, etc. etc. It was a complete joke when they comment on all thier "communit service" they have done, school pride they bring, and showing off their one black member. OooooooooHHH. I have several good friends in frats but for the most part I have yet to see one truly follow what they say.

Yikes.. you people have brought up some good points, but ones that are not really true at this house at this school. First of all, almost the entire house is between 20-23 years old. They cant force you to drink, but honestly 4 beers before my math class wouldnt affect me at all. I've been drinking at my own pace, and have actually gotten drunker at other parties. As for dues or buying friendship.... well dues aint really that much here, and im a pretty friendly person. I get along with each member that i've met on a person to person basis. i dont really have many close friends anyways, so its no difference to me.

oh, and i am in the military as well for whoever mentioned that. club vball too.. maybe i just like actually doing stuff :p
